OPINION: There is no reason for Lady Gaga to underperform for the next one

I don't think shes out of the woods yet. Shes certainly capable of reclaiming success and credibility but I think critical appreciation will have to be regained in order for her to do well again commercially. Gaga only thrives commercially when shes critic approved.

Plus, some people just hate her. They just avidly disregard her. Shed have to come out with something that was just undeniably spectacular for that disdain to be overruled.

Cheek to Cheek was critically acclaimed but the sales performance wasn't as impressive as Duets II. :emma:

It actually wasn't critically acclaimed. Overall reception to the album was mixed.

It wasn't? I think only one review was negative out of 100. :emma:

I compared Cheek to Cheek to Duets II, both are jazz albums.

it's in the low 60's on metacritic. I would say the project overall is quite acclaimed though due to the Oscars and Grammy performances. The performances in general have really overshadowed the album itself which is honestly pretty bland

The majority of reviews were mixed, a few were positive. Definitely not critically acclaimed. Aside from the fact that while I think the album is good its not great, a lot of critics seemed apprehensive about her doing this record with Tony. Some saw it as a desperate tactic to regain some credibility since her pop career was supposedly faltering, others just rolled their eyes. I feel like if she comes out with another jazz record itll be more well received because people have gotten used to the idea of her doing more than strictly pop.

I feel as though what feels like acclaim came later on in the era when they got on tour and she started performing the album at awards shows like the Grammys.

All or almost all the critics on Metacritic are critics by POP experts not jazz.

All the jazz critics were excellent.

:excuseu: spin it however you want man. do you.

ive seen jazz critics be just as apprehensive as the pop critics. it was not critically acclaimed. I dont care how you spin it. but it also wasn't critically panned either. so don't get all defensive as if im trying to say the album was a critical failure or something. it just wasnt acclaimed.

I think Gaga's chances of easily having three to four number one singles days are gone.  Now, one to two is a definite, but with a very outside chance at a third hit single, which I don't see happening..

Comparing Gaga's album to Rihanna's Loud is at least not a good idea. Scoring #1s is not only about releasing good songs, it's also about the good timing, being 'cool' and liked by most of the public during that time.

In Gaga's case the things are different. Even if she releases TFM-level masterpiece for the next one, its performance will help only to REGAIN the public's attention. So it will not slay so much anyway. Maybe the next one.
