Jjang 2,262
Iggy Azalea is not the primest example of cultural appropriation imo, shes a lazy example. As opposed to say....Riff Raff, who I think is a million times more offensive on that front. Granted, he didn't have the #1 hit in the country so I assume thats why hes gone untargeted. Anyway, Gaga is just as much an easy target as Iggy considering shes been accused of appropriation in the past. People come with daggers for Gaga over the tiniest things let alone being given a possible opportunity to further condemn her such as this. Those "tumblr" rants only start there and their point of view then spreads into popular consciousness. At any rate, why would anyone desire for her to ultimately be treated the way Katy Perry was for doing an asian themed performance? Sure the backlash was contained but its still an air of negativity thats totally avoidable. Because its not like she'd do anything interesting with said motif anyway, it would all be done in vain like it was with Aura. Theres so many other avenues to take that can ultimately be more interesting/fruitful.I've already stated the difference between the two, dude.it depends on how she chooses to incorporate Arabic elements into her work at the end of the day. And quite frankly I can't see her doing anything worthy of being discussed as an issue.
blacklistedd 599
I've already stated the difference between the two, dude. It wouldn't be a career damaging move.Well, on a second thought, it depends on how chooses to incorporate Arabic elements into her work. So I only partially agree.I can't imagine a way in which she'd incorporate Arabic elements into her work that would come off substantial enough to not be seen as too much an affectation. I think its one thing if theres some element in production or some sort of thin veil of influence visually. But I mean something similar to what the OP stated is too heavy a usage imo. At least for Lady Gaga specifically, its not like she comes across as worldly as Shakira.

We both know she's smart enough not to do something stupid. Visually & sonically speaking, I highly doubt she could pull of something more striking and controversial than M.I.A's Bad Girls, yet look how she got away with it. Its really not the big deal you're making it out to be. I mean, for ****s sake. This woman received backlash on a whole bigger level already, why would this stop her.And as I've mentioned before, the matter of difference between Iggy & Gaga shouldn't be explained. I don't feel the need to explain something so obviously established.

I think there are far more interesting paths for her to take aesthetically and ones in which a controversy will be welcomed and far more fruitful. There is a difference in the manner in which their appropriation is perceived now but ultimately Gaga is as much of a target as Iggy Azalea is. Not even arguable.I'm really enjoying how much you go out of your way to argue with me now though. It makes being on this forum far more amusing.
