Sometimes a girl just needs a diet coke and a tanning bed." Maybe it's because we're highly aware of the dangers of tanning beds, but we find this tweet pretty insensitive, especially given the fact that May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month. May we remind Gaga that only three weeks ago, a major lawsuit was filed against two popular tanning salons in New York for stating that tanning beds promote "deceptive health benefits" and "significantly downplay the risks" associated with tanning beds? The lawsuit claims that the companies promoted tanning beds as a way to "increase vitamin D production" and denied "any relationship between skin cancer and indoor tanning" (the relationship between the two has been demonstrated by extensive research). Should you need it, some further evidence that tanning beds are not good: Fourteen states have placed bans on minors using tanning devices, Australia has banned tanning beds across the entire country;, and Brazil imposed a similar ban in 2009.
