Directioners SMASH petition target to release new One Direction single

It's a widely publicised fact that One Direction have a very passionate fan base, and their latest campaign could be their most ambitious yet.

Organised by four fans - Layne, Lynn, Amy and Sheena - the campaign to have album track 'No Control' given an official release started after the boyband's following felt like their latest record Four hadn't been given the promotional push it deserves.


Their aim is to raise the profile of the song with a week-long period of promotion on Facebook, Twitter and their official Tumblr page, culminating with a Thunderclap on social media just before the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday (May 17).

Its main drive is to convince One Direction to release 'No Control' as a single, but also get it to number one through a surge in downloads and streaming numbers to reinforce their request.

The campaign started with the aim of getting just 500 people to sign up for the Thunderclap, but that target was quickly surpassed and now stands at just over 19,000 supporters.

That gives them a social reach of 33.3 million people, with four days left before the campaign comes to a head.
