Spanish Eyes 2,138
My own input for DWUW The key is a tricky thing with this one. The tonic is clearly D...BUT there is an E major chord in it, which doesn't fit the key of D major. Also, the bridge has a C sharp minor chord, which, again, doesn't fit D major. All in all, there are three accidentals used - f sharp, c sharp, and g sharp, which means the key SIGNATURE would be notated as A major. However, I believe the song is built on a D Lydian Mode, giving us the following notes: D - E - F sharp - G sharp - A - B - C sharp - D. Notice the augmented fourth. This is crucial because in the chorus, she heavily emphasizes A to G sharp ("heart and") so we must considered its importance in the song. That, combined with the clear tonic of D, is why I argue this piece is composed on a D Lydian Mode. My chord progression is as follows: Verses and Chorus: D major - E major - E major - Fsharp minor - E major In the bridge, however, she does this: D major - E major- C sharp minor - Fsharp minor - E major. Someone had said that she plays an f sharp diminised in the bridge, but I'm positive that that's not the case. That would mean she uses a c natural which simply isn't there. Source: I'm about to graduate with a music degree, focused in electronic composition and theory. Venus is in F major.. a Major F Venus. Fitting. o/ Venus is in F minor. We can hear B flat, E flat, A flat, and D flat in the melody and chords.

Sometimes, just because there is an accidental or natural doesn't mean it changes the entire key. That's why there are accidentals. IMO though, it sounds like Fdim. In the bass synth, it's an f (single note) playing. C#m would have an E. Also not F#m dim, Fm dim. Edit: Also I think (not sure or studying professionally) that it would be in F#m because she doesn't even use an A chord in the song.
