dy2light 28 Posted August 21, 2013 Share Posted August 21, 2013 I'm going to disagree on this one. To me it sounds like B Major, just because a chord is played first does not make it the I chord. To me, the B Major chord sounds like where it resolves, so that basically the verses use a V-IV-I progression. F#, E, and B are all diatonic to the B major key and comprise the V, IV, and I forms, so B Major seems the obvious choice. Note also that you are incorrect in saying that the E major is a diminished VII in F#, it would have to be an E#dim chord, and of course by definition an E-Major chord is not diminished anyway. If you want to insist on the F# as the I chord, it'd be more correct to say that the song is written in the modal scale F# Mixolydian, which has the exact same key signature as B Major since it is derived from it by starting at the V, ie, F#. but I'd call it B Major. The sheet music available at musicnotes.com also shows the key sig as B Major. Yeah, I should have said F# Mixolydian a while ago (I'd say it's that though.
