I somewhat take it back actually...It might depend how you define classic as. Like if anyone who bought The Fame listens to Paper Gangsta again they might think to themselves "ah i miss classic gaga" even if it wasn't a hit.

i think its unfair to deny songs like mtn as a classic simply because it wasnt a huge hit. thats only the one-dimensional definition of a classic. to me, marry the night is one of those songs that is a classic in nature, just the feeling it inspires whenever i hear it, the passion, it always gets me in a fighter spirit which was what born this way was all about. it has a classic 80s disco sound, idk...it feels like a real classic to me. there's plenty of popular songs now that don't leave any mark on me and probably will be forgotten in the grand scheme of pop culture.

I totally agree. Marry the Night is one of my favorite Gaga songs. One of my favorite songs ever, actually.

But I also kindof think that for something to be a classic perhaps it should be a song that people remember? It doesn't need to be a huge hit, but I just don't remember MTN even being played on the radio. (Then again, the woman who runs my local Pop radio station has an issue with Gaga and gives her NO promo and barely plays her songs, so :flop:)

It's not a classic and those of you who are arguing this by calling us chart biased are wrong. Poker Face, Bad Romance, The Edge of Glory are all classics because they're all known and respected hits. Not many people outside of the fanbase know MTN, therefore it cannot be a classic (and the family members/friends you played BTW to don't count)

This isn't to bash MTN because it's a really good song. It actually SHOULD be a classic because it's one of the best off of BTW and it didn't deserve to flop but it's not a classic because it's not very well known.

^ I agree with this too. It's such a great song deserving of all the praise.

I agree, but I also think classic stems more from hearing the song and instantly thinking "That sounds like a Lady Gaga song." And that's what Marry The Night ultimately is. Undeniably Gaga. Let anybody listen to it and they'd say "That's Lady Gaga."

Also mess at some y'all thinking commercial success = classic. Didn't y'all pay attention in school when the teacher explained what "classic" even means in literature and other fine arts? Let's talk about how "Thriller" by Michael Jackson is considered a classic even though it was considered a flop because it "only" peaked at #4 on the Hot 100. :neyde:

I recently applied for a job. One question I was asked "What would be your daily theme song?"

I wrote 'Marry The Night- Lady Gaga'

Once the MTN video becomes a pop culture icon, we can talk about how it's chart position is irrelevant.

MTN needs a lot more recognition than Billboards floppy articles to be considered a real classic.

Because right now MTN is a classic in the same way that Iggy's album is.

Yes, Marry The Night, the immaterial song, an abstract thing, becomes a living pop culture icon. :neyde: Billboard is apprearently only floppy whenever they say positive things about Gaga.

Billboard has been floppy for like, 3 years now.

Also Thriller is a living pop culture icon and you were the one that compared it to MTN...
