A reporter has provoked outrage after suggesting that the birth of the royal baby created ‘a little bit of levity’ after the ‘doom and gloom’ of the Nepal earthquake.

Camilla Tominey, Royal Editor for the Sunday Express, appeared on the BBC to talk about the birth of Britain’s new Princess this morning.

She said: ‘One wants a bit of a carnival atmosphere, I would expect. We’ve had some doom and gloom in the past week with the Nepal earthquake and what have you.

‘And equally, we’re going to be into the election next week, so this perhaps creates a little bit of levity in between.’

Viewers called the remark ‘disgusting’, made after the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby girl, as they took to Twitter to complain.

So far 6,621 people have died since the 7.9 magnitude quake hit Nepal on Saturday with 14,021 people injured.

I never thought 2015 will be even messier than 2014. Jesus Christ, what a mess. [/spoiler}

Without being too assumptive; "‘One wants a bit of a carnival atmosphere, I would expect." gives it away that she's clearly not in touch with the people and is more royalist than the average British person. Her opinion is still completely inconsiderate though.

i dont think she means cheer people in Nepal up, i think she means cheer the British public up because 'We’ve had some doom and gloom in the past week with the Nepal earthquake' & 'we’re going to be into the election next week'
Well thats what i took from what she said anyway.

Still an incredibly stupid statement though, i hate this fixation on the royal family.

But nobody cares outside of the UK?

There was much more media coverage here in the US over their wedding and the first baby. I hardly see anything about the 2nd baby.

That is one of the most disrespectful things to say

People have died and they're comparing to a baby's image

How unsympathetic of them

I don't think I can respect them anymore

Well how great for the British public that the Nepal news story is just that, A NEWS STORY. They don't have to endure the harsh conseqences of an earthquake like that. But for the people in Nepal after the news stations get bored they'll still have to live with the disaster.

Let me not even start on the fact that monarchies are still a thing in the 21st century. So outdated.

Yaaaassss!!! Of course! Because humans beings are not equals, so the birth of a superior baby 200% makes up for the loss of over 6.000 lesser lives! \o/

:awkney: (it's like humanity never, ever, learns anything...)

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

I have no more "likes" to give.

I get that the intentions behind the statement were good, but it was kind of a ****ty thing to say.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

I'm sure my Nepalese friends would agree with her statement.

Just kidding.

That "royal" baby isn't even cheering up its grandfather. Please stop.
