Fiona Apple 13,006
They should know the lyrics to all songs they recorded/are performing on the tour without the help from a prompter.I never saw a prompter tbh
Didymus 34,380
They should know the lyrics to all songs they recorded/are performing on the tour without the help from a prompter. But she clearly does. Most of the tour involves moving around and dancing and she has zero possibility of reading a prompter anywhere. It's just this segment and I can understand why: it's just her facing the audience and if she slips up, she can't just quickly recover or keep on dancing and move on, the whole performance falls flat on its ass and she is a laughing stock for a simple mistake. Also, I think most artists hear their own studio vocals in a headpiece so they can rely on that when they forget lyrics. I remember Gaga had some technical difficulties during her streamed artRAVE show, where her studio vocals suddenly burst through the arena speakers during Bang Bang and Gypsy for no reason. This could be a hidden trick to offer support during a performance that you can't pull when you're just performing acoustically.I dunno, some thoughts. They should, but it doesn't mean that they never forget them in the moment. I'd rather have teleprompted lyrics than silence or an awkward "SING IT AUDIENCE!" I can just feel the panic blocking my thoughts picturing the situation

AmenTheNight 1,084
I don't understand how is it even possible to debate for 18 pages about an artist reading a prompter, when it's well known that a ****load of artists do that. I mean, it's common knowledge, there's nothing to be ashamed about, it happens to everyone to forget a lyric, it's just a little safety used to not be awkward. I was at the Prismatic Tour, and the girl does everything but sticking her eyes to a prompter. As for the "it's hard to remember lyrics that you didn't write", I have a little story. Here in France, one of our major artists, singer-songwriter, Zazie, forgot a whole verse of her biggest song (her Poker Face) in the middle of the show. Even if the crowd was still going on, she was completely unable to remember the rest of the song, and god knows that she's a skilled songwriter. This comment makes no sense. And at least, it's just a prompter, not a karaoke machine like Miley Cyrus used at the Bangerz tour.

None of us have writing credits on our favourite songs yet you bet we could sing them word for word.

zack 15
Yes! So hard to remember all those words when the music is playing! I do wonder how all those people in community theatres and regional theatres get by without a telepromter though? How in the world do they remember all their lines and words?
