I have clarified my belief ENOUGH on this site. Okay?

Obviously not, if you didn't really mean what you said. You haven't clarified anything.

Well then.

All I'll add is that it is truly sad and terrifying, not only that some small cities contain people with these sort of demented and evil views, but these beliefs are still in the heads of some people who associate on some level with gay people in sites that you would assume to be safe.

I've seen some users attempt to make a distinction between "I think being gay is a sin due to my religious beliefs" and "I believe gay people should die", saying the former example is acceptable. While obviously these two statements are morally far apart from each other, the first statement is still not ok.

A belief that a person is lesser or morally corrupt on any level due to their s-xuality is a rotten belief. It doesn't make the belief any less horrid by bringing in religious convictions.

I'm not a sinner. I'm not morally corrupt. My s-xuality is not a blemish.

Any person who thinks otherwise, is hateful and any deity that decrees it depraved isn't worthy of respect or worship.

Cheeky little Sodomites & Gomorrahnites :fan:

Oh and yeah I agree that people are free to believe and be whatever phobic they want, but as soon as it starts going beyond just that is where the line must be drawn. Homophobia/transphobia/other phobias may "just" be a belief, but when you're saying people deserve to die because of how they are then no it's not "just" a belief anymore :emma: It's a route to genocide :wtf:

:applause: this all the way

I agree with you, but I do know people who believe gay s-x is a sin, due to their upbringing. Now, they also believe divorce and drinking is a sin...so I don't know how they classify all these sins in their heads. I think many of these types of people are coming around to question what they have been taught, but many never will. Even so, I do feel there is a difference in believing certain interpretations of the Bible (or whatever book other religions adhere to) and believing that basic human rights should be denied to any group of people. IMO, there is a difference in saying that your religion teaches certain ideas and you believing that those ideas are correct for everyone or would even make sense to someone outside of your religion. Most importantly, the Jesus that most of these religious people follow would never say the types of things his followers say today. Jesus hung out with thieves and prostitutes...something that Christians conveniently forget or ignore.

I definitely get your point, but I would still challenge those ideas as homophobic. There is definitely a difference between believing an interpretation of a holy book and denying human rights. I'm certainly not going to dispute that. I agree with all the differences you have pointed out.

In this instance, I'm not even really bothered on whether or not it is a correct interpretation to believe homos-xuality is a sin, if somebody interprets their holy text this way then I still think it's important to point out the homophobia.

If someone's God claims that homos-xuality is a sin, then their God is homophobic and unfair. If that contradicts what their God is supposed to be then either their God isn't the pious moral authority they thought, or their interpretation is wrong.

These attitudes towards gay people, claiming they are sinful or immoral, might seem small if the person with these attitudes decides something like "Well we are all sinful in someway, nobodies perfect" but it does help spread the idea that homos-xuality is a deviance and that there is something inherently wrong with it.

I agree with all of this, as well. I do know some people who believe in all sin being equal and really don't let it carry over to thinking that the person committing the sin is doomed to their religion's hell. I guess it is more of a once saved, always saved view. Even then, you have the fact that they are thinking that being monogamous with one person for life is a sin for gay people, when it isn't for straight people...so it is still a flawed view, even if it is more accepting.

I also believe there are religious people who are questioning these ideas and struggling to understand what their church is telling them. They are learning to separate their religion's beliefs from basic human rights and respect of those who don't believe as they do. These are the types of individuals that you can have a discussion with and come away feeling like they at least tried to look at something outside of the way they have been brought up. It's a start. :)

Lady Palutena

Oh my... :ohno:

All I can say is I don't agree with the OP and as a Transgendered female I've faced bigots like this all my life. It's a shame that people think you are worthy of death because of who you are.

Pastors and Tribal Elders constantly remind me of my "perverted" ways or say that they'll "ask God to find me", whatever that means. I'm thankful that my Mother loves and supports me because with all the homophobia/transphobia in my town I don't know how I'd even cope.

Look say you don't support LGBT people, say it's your opinion that it is wrong; I have no problem with this, you are perfectly entitled to it but when you start bringing in a million year old book and saying "God says this", "God believes this", "God wants that". I don't know how you can speak for God because until you hear it out of his or her mouth there is no way you can speak for them.

Poor you when you get judged by your God and it turns out that your hateful ways are wrong and LGBT people aren't.

Adoremus in caelum, Palutena. Dea luminis.
