Good point. I think this whole cultural appropriation conversation is just old and stale. Artists should be allowed to express themselves anyway they want. If Nicky Minaj is wearing a blond wig is she pretending to be white? I think Madonna's performance on Fallon was flawless. Did she take elements from black culture? Hell yes, but in my opinion it worked for her. Did Iggy use rap to make a career for herself. Yes, in my opinion it worked for her too. Going gold is not easy. Even Arian Grande has only sold about 600,000 albums and that is with 4 hit singles. Is Ariana Grande doing cultural appropriation when she sings R&B? What about David Guett with a song like Hey Mama. Or Gwen Stefani and No Doubt doing Ska. This argument originally came from someone who has failed to make it in Rap. If you don't like the music someone is putting out, then don't buy it. It will go away if no one buys it. But we should not be dictating to anyone what they can or cannot do on their album or their freedom of creative expression or their art. Just my opinion.
