Is the blonde female popstar more open to criticism than others?

I know this is a kind of broad subject, but it involves Gaga so I thought it was quite fitting in Gaga Thoughts.

I've been noticing a trend in pop culture: blonde popstars, specifically blonde, seem to get a lot more scrutiny than brunette or red-haired popstars. Back in the day, Madonna got a lot of criticism, then it was Christina and Britney, the latter to an extreme degree. Then in the '10s, the media turned to their heads to Gaga, who received a staggering amount of scrutiny, then it was Kesha and Miley, and now it's Iggy Azalea. Yes, she's not a technically a popstar, but she's still a mainstream figure. All these women have one thing in common: they're blonde (or are generally known as blondes, despite occasionally changing their hair colour).

On the other hand, girls like Rihanna, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande are all brunettes and arguably receive much less criticism than their blonde peers. The only popstar who bucks this trend is Taylor Swift, who seems to be loved by freaking everybody.

Would you say blondeness has anything to do with media scrutiny? Or is hair colour irrelevant? If so, what makes some popstars more susceptible to criticism than others?

I await your thoughts. :queenga:

Blonde celebrities in general are often associated with air-headed & shallow early 20 year old women who are famous for no reason, have b---hy personalities, expensive tastes & have/want sugar daddies so i'd say yes.

Hence why there's not really many blonde popstars now, everyone has dyed their hair back to their natural colour (except Gaga who wears blonde wigs still)

Taylor did get backslash during red era when she was with Harry. She got the reputation of dating too many men and writing bitter songs once they breakup.

Never noticed that. Very interesting tbh. :udidnt:

But I think it's not because of that. I think the Blondes just tend to be the more outgoing and controversial.

I mean, present day:

Miley vs Ariana

Miley is the rebellious disney girl who lost were way and became "Ratchet".

Ariana is your pretty girl next door

Gaga vs Katy

Gaga is the meat dress wearing Gay activist

Katy - who does try to be controversial - is the funny cute popstar.

But yes, Nicki is quite controversial for her usage of female s-xuality.

Taylor is really just a down to earth sweet girl who causes almost no controversy, making her different from her blonde peers.

It's really a coincedence they're all blonde tbh.

True, but even Gaga seems to be going with her natural hair a lot more these days. I hope she doesn't abandon the blonde look for good.

i'm sure it's to do with C2C more than anything (the fact she feels more herself as well i guess) so i'm sure she'll use blonde a lot more again when LG5's era starts

It's not only in pop stars, in real life as well people who dye their hair blonde are often automatically thought of as stupid/shallow

When it comes to Gaga I don't think it's about her hair color. It's because she's so outspoken and such an activist, people don't like it and want to tear her down. And although she spent many years trying to make it, people think she's rose to fame very quickly with The Fame and The Fame Monster and media and society like to tear down people who they view as gaining success so quickly.
