Fans (or at least stans on Gaga Daily) are not aging with Gaga as time passes

​Your friend's uncle sounds a lot like me.  I am 71 and follow Gaga on those same sites and more.  I have converted many people into liking Gaga, mostly people who never got over disliking her freakish image from the early eras.  They had no idea there is more to Gaga than just that image.  Many older people like her when they discover she is a good person who spreads kindness and helps people.

Several times I almost left GGD because of all the negativity.  But there are many great people here, so I stay.  The other sites don't have much in the way of discussions.  Btw, there are quite a few fans much older than myself, and Gaga's universal appeal will only grow.  She still supports bullied kids, she still supports LGBT, but now she belongs to the world.​

My friend's uncle said "I haven't seen an artist be this genuine and humanly or make music that moves me like this since John Denver, especially to rival 'Annie's Song'". He came out as bis-xual to his nephew and I one day and revealed he's had a lifelong struggle with identity issues (which I understood, being gay myself raised by homophobic "Christians") but what made him feel better was accidentally catching Gaga on the Grammys (I believe?) performing Born This Way. He said he kind of liked the way it sounded, looked it up on YouTube, and found her at a piano singing it and he started crying. I was like "If you liked that one, I have something for you" and showed him Gaga performing Hair and it broke him down because someone had finally put that feeling he and so many other people, including myself, have felt into words and wrote a song with it.

But, yeah, Gaga is/will always be a legend imho. I don't think she belongs to the world, she belongs to herself. She has that Italian New Yorker blood, a supportive family, a close team of professionals/friends, a hot and supportive fiance, an adorable bat-pig and Fozzy bear, as well as the power of a million Monsters behind her

I think Gaga's fanbase DID sorta grow with her. Gaga picked up the majority of her fanbase around 2009-2011......and most were 13-17 years old at the time. So those people who became fans in their early to mid teens are now like 18-21. I don't see many 13-15 year olds on here much anymore. If you feel old on this site, you must have started out as an old fan. I'm 23 right now and became a fan when I was nearly 18.....which is kind of old compared to most people. 

Its also the fact that as you get older you have more responsibilities and don't have time to spend hours each day posting on a fan forum. Most of the teens and people in their early 20s are in high school or college and have a lot more time for things like this than a person in their late 20s with a career. 

And honestly.....there isn't THAT much of an age difference between 20 and 23. I don't get why you are so bothered to be a few years older than most people on here. Its not like you are interacting with 10 year olds on Club Penguin.

​You are totally correct, Gaga belongs to herself.  She remains faithful to her own artistic and creative visions, and those who are like-minded can enjoy it but she won't degrade her art by pandering.  When I said she belongs to the world, I was talking about popularity.  Bullied kids and LGBT look at her as "their" artist, but I think her popularity is starting to expand to the public in general.  They are beginning to see her multiple talents,  And people love happy, smiling people, and images like this will go a long way towards winning the hearts and minds of the public:  http://ipodmini.tumblr.com/post/116553084544/lady-gaga-for-shiseido

For me being an older fan I can tell you in the early internet days all we had was forums and message boards. These days young folks seem to enjoy the social media sites more, but still having a message board to chat with fans is most comfortable for me! I think maybe the older fans just don't know about it or have more important things to do!  I am single with no kids and I guess have much more time lol. I think probably many come to the site and read the news so that is sufficient enough.

Ever since this forum has been created, I've known it and I've been reading the posts made here regularly. Often I felt like posting and signing up but everytime I was close to do it, I refrained from doing so... until now, when I read your post - because it has touched me a lot.

I belong to the same age group as you and I know how you feel. Honestly, I never knew that Gaga fans were SO young until you made a topic about it. Just like you, I felt shocked, somehow deeply saddened and really frustrated because I feel old, older than ever before. Getting older is something I never aspired.

I wish there were more fans in our age group. I mean, Lady Gaga has now turned 29 but the majority of her fans is soo much younger than her, it makes me so sad. The age gap is just too big.

I was 17 when Lady Gaga achieved global fame and mega star status. That was back then, years ago, these times are over sadly although it still feels like it's been only two years ago. But I can't change reality. :(

 

We are leaving our early 20s behind us and are approaching our middle 20s, I hate it. I don't wanna be that old. I wanna be young just like the majority here.

However, I DO think that there are more 21+ fans than you assume because I believe that a lot of 21+ fans are on this forum - but they don't post and haven't created and account. They are invisible just like I've been (until now). I can imagine that 21+ fans may feel strange being here and posting on a forum but well, I don't think it's so strange after all.

Probably the childish gifs and images that are constantly posted again and again are shooing away older people from signing up here.

"Was there ever a period of time when the fan base was older?" - at the very beginning, I believe. Since then it has only gotten younger. The more famous a person is, the more young people will be attracted.

Well, I'm a brandnew member yet I promise you that I will not leave you alone here! I mean, there are other people in our age group...they are a reason do stay, don't you think so?

Sadly we're getting older while Gaga's average fanbase age is stagnating, maybe even getting slightly younger... in my opinion, teenage kids simply have more free time left that we have, they have so much free time that they can spend it on online forums. It's only comprehensible.

When you are above 21 years, you start feeling like "ouch, I shouldn't be here" :( .

However, I'm not angry at the teenage kids, they are not to be blamed, I'm angry at the 21+ fans who left this site.

Katie, why do you feel embarrased being here? If you could choose one age that you could have forever, which one would you choose? I'd choose 18.

I don't understand it fully. Every famous artist has a fan forum devoted to him and her and being on a forum is not embarrasing in my opinion. It's okay to be here.

​Welcome to the site! Its such a terrible feeling, to feel old. After turning 23 a few days ago and then making the poll on here, I have never before felt so old. It was shocking to me too, to see the age statistics right there in black and white. I knew the average age on here was younger than me, but I thought it was only slightly younger, like a year or two. In reality the average is only 3-4 years younger, but that extra amount seems like a big difference.  I was more surprised that the average age has stayed about the same since 2009  Now I can't even think to myself that everyone will age with us. Most fans just leave after college. So, the age gap will continue to grow with time.

Age is all relative really. We are old compared to kids and teenagers and the average user on here but we are still considered young relative to an entire lifespan. Its just really frustrating and depressing to think that im not maturing at the proper rate, like im falling behind my peers. It makes me angry too that older fans moved on and sort of abandoned us here with all the younger users. I guess im more just frustrated with myself for wanting to be here still when I technically should have grown out of my Gaga obsession.

(Besides now feeling too old to be here) I am embarrassed of being on here because I just think it is odd to be so obsessed with Gaga that I feel the need to discuss her online. Now that im really thinking about it, maybe I always thought I was too old. Maybe I always thought that being on a fan forum for a celebrity is immature, unless you are under 15 or something.  Maybe part of the reason that im so mad about it now is because back then at 19, I didn't have a reason to be embarrassed. My age was average for this site. I didn't have a real reason to be embarrassed but I was.  Now I actually am too old and I do have a reason.

If I could choose any age to be again, I think I would want to be 8 or 9 haha. Life was so simple back then and everything was so exciting! I actually looked forward to things like birthdays, Halloween, sleepovers, family vacations. Now, I just feel extremely jaded and cynical. Nothing is really that fun anymore. Very little gets me excited now. And when I do get excited, its not nearly as much as when I was a kid. Its more of a numb subtle excitement.

I also think that there probably are more 21+ users. They just aren't as active (especially since Gaga isn't really doing anything right now) so they probably were less likely to be logged on during the specific time I made the poll. Idk, I really hope that is true.

i'm 31, still a huge fan of Gaga, i actually always liked her but i started stnning after BTW as i felt that her music was getting more mature and since then i started visiting this site everyday, and i like to read the topics and the comments, catch up with the gossip, news and rumors (specially at work :) ) but i rarely take the initiative to start a thread as i don't have the time to research (plus you guys are so fast) and i don't usually like to comment (specially when i see some comments that consider older guys are creeps and stuff like that) so finally i like to stan from a distance (but i love you guys), and i have a lot of friends around my age that do the same.

PS. i also stan for Madonna, Britney, Christina and Cher. Gaga is my fav tho

I don't interact with every member on this site, and the younger members generally have such a different interest spectrum that they usually don't post on any of my threads either.   

So...there is no real reason to feel 'old' for this site... Simply guide you posts and reading to your interests and the ages groups will take care of themselves.
