Fans (or at least stans on Gaga Daily) are not aging with Gaga as time passes

I'm your same age and joined around the same time as you. You made an interesting observation. Keep in mind, when we started at 19 y/o, that's when college started. I managed to make time to still be here, but other people probably just got too busy with school and work to continue being here. There have been times when I've taken a long break from here to focus on school and life. Maybe some of these members still visit the site but just missed you poll! :)

I think older people still stan for Gaga but not from this site.Older people have more responsibilities and priority so the frequent visits will slow down a bit. People have their own lives, too!

People who stays on this site are probably students and anyone who has a lot of free time. Also Gaga news have died down a bit so less people will come here.

I'm 23 and I graduated last year and couldn't find a job so I was on this site ALL THE TIME!

Now I have more stuff to do in my life and not much Gaga news so I only come here to look around and rarely comments.

I do think the immature Stan lingo and drama turns off older members. After a while you just outgrow the need for your "fav" to "slay" in everything.

I started going on the ladygaga.com forums when I was 13 and then Gagadaily since I was 14. I'm turning 19 in May and my usage of this site hasn't slowed down at all.

I feel like I grew up with Gaga and she's like a part of my adolescence and I don't really see myself just losing interest like that. I'll be here for a while.

I made an age thread on here a few days ago and it really bothers me that the average age on this site is around 17-20. I found an age poll from 2009 from the Gagadaily archives and the age breakdown was pretty much the same as it is now. The thing is, the fan base isn't getting older with time because fans seem grow out of stanning after the age of 21. So, when I started stanning when I was 19 in 2011, my age was average and now mostly everyone who was my age or older left.

I am in no way trying to offend or put down fans who are teenagers. Its just kind of upsetting to me because im 23 now and I feel like Im too old to be here. About 70% of this site is younger than me. I didn't even realize this or think about it until i made the poll the other day. I guess I knew that there were a lot of younger fans on here because of some of the immaturity I was seeing, but I didn't think there was such a huge young presence. I feel the same way as a highschooler would if they were hanging out with middle schoolers. I just feel embarassed and ashamed that I didn't grow out of stanning yet while mostly everyone else my age already has. I was always embarrassed of being an obsessed fan and being on this forum. I would never tell anyone in my real life how much of a fan I am. But I was never embarrassed because I thought I was too old. I just always thought it was weird to be obsessed with a celebrity at any age.

Anyway, how do fans who are my age or older feel about the huge young presence? Was there ever a period of time when the fan base was older? Are there any age polls from 2010-2013? For the fans who are younger than me, do you think you will still be here in a few years? Will the age range of stanning always be around 17-20 reguardless of how much time passes and how old Gaga gets?

Dear, this website is in no way reflective of the median age for Lady Gaga's fans. The reason a lot of people on here are young is because they have more time to be on here than other older fans, the older fans have other things such as work and other things to juggle. Older fans read stories about Lady Gaga and keep up with what she's doing, just because they aren't active on GagaDaily doesn't really mean anything. I'm not concerned about the young presence on here so much as I am concerned with Lady Gaga and her crew and her label thinking all of her fans are kids. If they only think the fans are kids, they will keep having her make music appealing to kids and never let her grow and explore more mature themes and music that appeal to older people. Like with Cheek to Cheek honestly I feel promo wasn't full force because the label thinks it's too much of a mature sound for the younger fans, they only want to promote the younger sounding music that appeals to youth. Pop music is very specific in the target demographic - teenagers. if you look at ARTPOP, Lady Gaga talked about it being rave music, for the ravers and such, it became a niche album, it wasn't timeless music everyone could relate to.

But anyway, to your question, I don't think there's anything wrong with someone in their 20s coming on this site, or 30s, 40s, it's an open forum for anyone who's a fan of Lady Gaga; Gaga has fans of all ages, just look at all the celebrities and rockstars that support her.... and for fans to stick around with Gaga, to be a Monster4Life as Gaga and Monsters have been saying, I think it's important she makes music that contains all encompassing themes that all ages can listen to and understand and relate to on some level. People may grow over time and may not be as avid fans as they once were but it happens with all artists and performers.

Dear Katie,

Ever since this forum has been created, I've known it and I've been reading the posts made here regularly. Often I felt like posting and signing up but everytime I was close to do it, I refrained from doing so... until now, when I read your post - because it has touched me a lot.

I belong to the same age group as you and I know how you feel. Honestly, I never knew that Gaga fans were SO young until you made a topic about it. Just like you, I felt shocked, somehow deeply saddened and really frustrated because I feel old, older than ever before. Getting older is something I never aspired.

I wish there were more fans in our age group. I mean, Lady Gaga has now turned 29 but the majority of her fans is soo much younger than her, it makes me so sad. The age gap is just too big.

I was 17 when Lady Gaga achieved global fame and mega star status. That was back then, years ago, these times are over sadly although it still feels like it's been only two years ago. But I can't change reality. :(

We are leaving our early 20s behind us and are approaching our middle 20s, I hate it. I don't wanna be that old. I wanna be young just like the majority here.

However, I DO think that there are more 21+ fans than you assume because I believe that a lot of 21+ fans are on this forum - but they don't post and haven't created and account. They are invisible just like I've been (until now). I can imagine that 21+ fans may feel strange being here and posting on a forum but well, I don't think it's so strange after all.

Probably the childish gifs and images that are constantly posted again and again are shooing away older people from signing up here.

"Was there ever a period of time when the fan base was older?" - at the very beginning, I believe. Since then it has only gotten younger. The more famous a person is, the more young people will be attracted.

"For the fans who are younger than me, do you think you will still be here in a few years?"

Well, I'm a brandnew member yet I promise you that I will not leave you alone here! I mean, there are other people in our age group...they are a reason do stay, don't you think so?

"Will the age range of stanning always be around 17-20 reguardless of how much time passes and how old Gaga gets?"

Sadly we're getting older while Gaga's average fanbase age is stagnating, maybe even getting slightly younger... in my opinion, teenage kids simply have more free time left that we have, they have so much free time that they can spend it on online forums. It's only comprehensible.

When you are above 21 years, you start feeling like "ouch, I shouldn't be here" :( .

However, I'm not angry at the teenage kids, they are not to be blamed, I'm angry at the 21+ fans who left this site.

Katie, why do you feel embarrased being here? If you could choose one age that you could have forever, which one would you choose? I'd choose 18.

I don't understand it fully. Every famous artist has a fan forum devoted to him and her and being on a forum is not embarrasing in my opinion. It's okay to be here.

Love, Lie.

I'm looking gorgeous tonight

Nah. I'm 20 but I'll be stanning for Gaga for the rest of my life. I have a friend's uncle that I converted into a Monster around the time BTW came out and I went to artRAVE with him too. He's 70 and uses LM's, likes her on FB, and follows her on Twitter. I wonder if he stans more than I do :rockstar:

I have yet to introduce him to GGD though :dies:

Your friend's uncle sounds a lot like me.  I am 71 and follow Gaga on those same sites and more.  I have converted many people into liking Gaga, mostly people who never got over disliking her freakish image from the early eras.  They had no idea there is more to Gaga than just that image.  Many older people like her when they discover she is a good person who spreads kindness and helps people.

Several times I almost left GGD because of all the negativity.  But there are many great people here, so I stay.  The other sites don't have much in the way of discussions.  Btw, there are quite a few fans much older than myself, and Gaga's universal appeal will only grow.  She still supports bullied kids, she still supports LGBT, but now she belongs to the world.

I live outside the space time continuum.

I had no idea we have people of so diverse age groups on GGD. I am so happy this topic was created.
