Sister 9,907
Nobody would lie in an anonymous poll though.sure some wouldI would if I didn't take the subject matter serious and didn't care about the truth of it The future's uncertain and the end is always near. Katie14 4,828
you got it so wrong. people grow out of fan forums.. not gaga. i even feel to old to be here and might leave but definetly not leave gaga. Yeah I agree, I think people grow out of these sites or just don't post as much like Zilla said. I definitely lurk and don't post as much as I did before, sometimes that's because I'm face palming or my opinion has already been posted :) Why do people grow out of fan forums though? This is literally the only place where I can have discussions about Gaga. I don't have any friends in my non internet life who like her. I get that people get jobs and then start families and have less time but most people have a few moments of free time throughout the day. I would usually rather come here than watch tv or read a book or a magazine. I can't see that changing. I feel like I will always want to have conversations about Gaga no matter what else is happening in my life.
Woolfsmck 2,763
Haroon is 43 How come I never knew about this? I didn't know that either...it never occurred to me what age 'any' poster was prior to this poll. I didn't consider it a factor in some of the conversions either, but now, I it makes more sense to me. A lot of topics seem so uninteresting , but the age gap goes a long way to explain some of the stances people take. also, the 'gang' up on ,mentality that I have seen here and lm.com is pretty age related...I am a loner and don't really relate to this kind of social behavior.. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. SEANGT 5,266
Feel similarly. I don't feel like I'm a stan though. I just like following the things Gaga does. It's hard to contribute though because everyone else is so much younger and the discussion is never as good as it could be with older members. I'm 25 in the 26th. I also had to keep myself in check judging other members too harshly when I realized a lot of this forum is 16/17. Of course they'll say some terrible stuff. I try to avoid it now, or at least check their age before I try to engage with them.
Katie14 4,828
Here's my thought process: I'm 35. I'll be turning 36 in a few months. I'm WAYYYYYYYYYYY older than almost everyone on here and Yes, I am aware that most of the Gaga fans on this site are extremely immature. I ignore it, and try to bring a level of maturity and discourse to this site. Regardless, the only other time I've ever gone through a hardcore, SINCERE STANNING phase of my life was... you guessed it... when I was 18 - 22. Back in 1997, I fell Hardcore in LOVE with Ani DiFranco. She was at the peak of her career at the time, and she was probably about ten years older than me... Same age difference as most of the little monsters on GGD are to Gaga currently. Prior to Ani DiFranco, I had never experienced a hardcore obsession on one musical artist, let alone an epic goddess on her level. I had posters on my walls. I made Ani DiFranco websites. I bought every album. I knew and memorized every word to every song. I cried and wept during her sad songs. I went to many shows... and she had a really wild fanbase filled with lots of young women, many of whom were gay, lesbian, dykes, bis-xual, queer and really alternative. it was definitely not the mainstream crowd. I bonded with a whole community of people because of Ani DiFranco and she really changed my life... And then... around the age of 22 (maybe 23, I'm not sure) - I just lost interest.... and I moved on. I stopped buying her albums. Ani DiFranco got progressively more mature and boring and lapsed into this sad era and then she had kids... and now she has 2 kids, and she's married... and she's in her mid 40s and she's not the wild, s-xy young rebel that she was back in the late 90s when she was changing her hair color every week and releasing wild, unapologetic songs. So anyway... I think that there is just a natural progression of both the artist and the fanbase... and it evolves over the course of an artist's transformation. In terms of Gaga, I think the best is yet to come... but we will have to wait and see. I think she is just getting started and getting better every day in her abilities as a vocalist & confident goddess. So, up to this point, I think Gaga's music has appealed mostly to a younger crowd - because that's what pop music is mostly geared towards.. but if she really does evolve to the next level in her career, I think she might actually appeal to a much wider, more diverse, and dare I say it - more mature audience. She will get there. And I think her fan base will continue to transform over time as well. it's just part of the natural growth cycle of an artist. Now as for Why somebody MY AGE is into Gaga... that is just because I recognize a F*cking Goddess when I see one. ;)Thank you for posting your experiences. I think its very interesting. I just can't see myself losing interest in Gaga the way you did with Ani DiFranco. I feel extremely dedicated and loyal to her. She was and is a big part of my life for 4 years. I can't just stop caring and thinking about her. Maybe I have a bit of an obsessive/addictive personality. I can't like someone or something without becoming obsessed. Its all or nothing for me it seems. Maybe I am just immature for my age and am using Gaga as a distraction from figuring out my own life. I also don't understand why a fan forum is supposed to be geared towards people 18-22 or younger. I know that the average age of Gaga's entire fanbase, not just fans on here, is probably older than that age range. I just feel like if you are a fan of an artist, its a natural desire to want to talk about and read about that artist. I think the most convenient way to do that is on a fan forum. I guess I don't understand why someone would be a fan and not want to be on a fan site. The average age on reddit is mid twenties. Why can't it be the same here? Katie14 4,828
The fact that you're older than 21 doesn't mean that you should feel embarrassed for being a Gaga fan or feel the need to stop liking her music. I'm sorry but this sounds ridiculous to me.I have been a fan of Gaga since 2008. I was 13 back then. Now I'm almost 20 and I stan really hard, and especially after the artRAVE I've been showing everyone how much I love her. I'm not afraid that I'll tell my friends that I love Gaga and they'll judge me for it coz I don't care about their opinion.I don't think im too old to be a fan. I just feel too old to be on this site. The reason I feel embarrassed is because my age used to be average. I just assumed that the fan base would stay relatively the same and everyone would age with me. Now i realized that being on a fan site is kind of immature I guess since fans seem to leave after a certain age. The age gap between the average fan on here and myself keeps getting bigger and bigger every year. It just makes me feel behind for my age, like im not maturing at the proper rate. Younger people see it as way to 'hook up' From what I see on this forum is group exluding. Many groups within the group want to be 'exclusive' .. Since GGD isn't about race, gender, s-xual preference, or age, many of these sub-groups feel they would rather visit other sites... like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. Why can't it be the same here? And to be quite honest, I actually don't see myself losing interest in Gaga either... However, I am old enough to know that I have gone through Many music phases in my life... I still love and appreciate all the music I have loved in earlier phases of my life, but I'm a music hoarder, and I tend to obsess over certain music for a while and then lose interest later... but still love it...I've gone through so many phases... the classic rock phase, the bjork phase, the PJ Harvey phase, the Ani DiFranco phase, the Belle & Sebastian phase, the Elliot Smith phase, the psytrance phase, the EDM phase, the downtempo phase (which I'm still into...), the underground pop music phase, the Gaga phase, the African music phase..... eventually I move onto the next new thing, because I love discovering NEW music almost more than I do being obsessed with one particular artist... For me, the joy of music is about discovering the next new album, the next single, the next hot track, and staying attentive to what's hot now. wahkeenasitka 1,995
The average age on reddit is mid twenties. Why can't it be the same here?to respond to this question... you know, I'm a massage therapist, and one of my main regular clients is a computer programmer - and he's REALLY into Reddit. he's in his late 30s. I don't use Reddit, but I sense that it's extremely diverse and is more of a male oriented, tech / professional forum website with a more mature community.. I don't know this for certain, but based on what little experience I have had with it...
