Gladly I live in a continent where the life of a human being is valued no matter what horrendous crimes he did. That doesn't mean you are more civilized, just that you have a different opinion on the death penalty. Barbaric is placing a bomb behind children. Barbaric is shooting a young security guard, Sean Collier, at point blank range between the eyes. You might feel differently if you were Martin Richard's mom, who tried to save her son that was blown apart by the bomb, by frantically placing his intestines back into his body....while her husband was saving their daughter who had her legs blown off. Or you were exchange student Lingzi Lu's mom and dad, who got the call that their daughter, had both her legs blown off and bleed out at the scene. What this man did is beyond words and absolutely sick. He really needs help. But punishing a killer with death is actually very barbaric in my eyes. It feels so wrong to justify to kill someone. You are right I'm no one of them, I only can say what I would feel if I lost a loved one and I clearly can't feel justice or could sleep well if a another human being were killed. You stated you were more civilized, because you felt a certain way about the death penalty, and I disagreed with that thought. You can't really say how you would feel unless you are a parent who watched their child die or got that call in the middle of the night. You are correct, though, that it is hard for jurors to actually sentence someone to death. I believe I could give the death sentence to someone who is guilty of such horrible crimes against so many people, but I would understand if others couldn't.
