Is Lady Gaga a fictional character?

This might sound like an odd question, but I've been thinking about this for weeks..  Would you say that 'Lady Gaga' is a character Stefani plays, or would you say it's her natural "second half"?  I mean, you see Katy Perry, Beyoncé, and Rihanna (etc) and you still see the same person while they are a popstar and in interviews.  But, with Stefani, she isn't the same.  For one instance, you could see a calm, normal brunnette named Stefani, but while she goes in "pop star mode" you hear a very outspoken, raging, performer.  They're like two completely different people.  So, would you say "Lady Gaga" is a real persona of Stefani, or would you say she's playing a "fictional" charcter called Lady Gaga?

I know this may sound confusing or somewhat, but I tried putting into words to what I've been thinking about..

its a way to express yourself, its really hard to still be your old you and become new.

This doesn't make sense , but when you have a hard childhood, and life in general, you don't want to be that cursed kid forever, you wanna evolve, and become. So it's easier to create a new you. But it's still new, just in a different way...

People hate what they don't understand.

Yes, I think so..

But I believe she's still being true to herself while playing along.

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

I think we talked about this a lot of times..

I think that Gaga is definetely a part of Stefani, she also said so herself. But I also think that if Stefani would have started out as just the "normal brunette", if the public would have never known her as Gaga, then she would have probably been too shy, you know? So maybe at the beginning Gaga was kind of a persona she created to be more confident.
So maybe she was partly fictional at the beginning.. but definetely not now. :)
And they are one and the same person, I'm sure of that.

I think Gaga/Stefani is always the same, however, when she's in "pop-star mode", as you said, she's allowed to express art in a way she otherwise wouldn't be. So all the wigs, dresses and make up, even if she could make them happen without being in "pop-star mode", would have no meaning, no concept, no idea. It would be senseless.

It's ha Ziggy Stardust with a mind and body of ha own

We have to thank David Bowie for inspiring Gaga to make The Fame as that probably was her greatest influence in making the album and her persona. I'm not sure she was expecting for Gaga to be so popular and was probably going to or will retire Gaga just like David did with Ziggy but Gaga took off and the rest is history. And for added effect:

As much as many Little Monsters would hate to admit it, Lady Gaga is most definitely a manufactured character/persona, and there's no denying that. However, that character/persona reflects who Stefani Germanotta is as person.

I think Gaga is more of an expression of who Stefani always wanted to be, but never felt strong enough to be on her own.
