Was G.U.Y. meant to flop? Was it a genuine flop or a bad luck?

No, of course it wasn't meant to flop. But neither was it just bad luck. It was shut out by the radio cartel, and unsupported by her label. The question is, why? I'm not sure.

Anyway, it makes me want her to get off Interscope as soon as she can. And of course it's just one more reason to break up radio station ownership.

G.U.Y. died of a mix between bad timing (like 2 YEARS too late, EDM was on its l way out by mid 2013) and a halted momentum (by then ARTPOP been fully branded as a flop project by the media and radio).

Though the lyrics do have something to do with it, G.U.Y. Lyrics wouldve done well in 2010-2012. By 2013, people were for the most part done with party and hypers-xual music.

The Dance music era died in 2013, ya'll. But it lives on through the hard synths of alternative music.

Clear Channel iHeartMedia owns 850 radio stations. Cumulus owns 460. A tiny handful of people control what gets played on the radio.

It was going to happen either way, no matter what song were to become the next single. The long blackout was the cause of it.

Gaga made G.U.Y. a Single so she could give us a video after DWUW mess and managent mess. She didn't care about success she cared about giving us a great video.

Oh and G.U.Y. didn't really flop. It would be considered a flop if radio pushed it hard and people still didn't buy it. Radio didn't push it they gave up on it after a week.

Anything woud've flopped if it were released in G.U.Y.'s position just because of Gaga's and ARTPOP's circumstances. If the era had been different and G.U.Y. were released, it would've probably done better. Definitely not the next Bad Romance, but it could've gone Top 10-15

Precisely. It wasn't meant to flop or set the world on fire. It was a gift to us.
