Sara 1,128
Really? REALLY? She's still dragging this up? And calling it "blatant"?The word "blatant" means that Gaga intentionally sat down with a copy of the song Express Yourself and intentionally and knowingly copied it. There is NO artist that dumb, especially in the age of the internet! If you know me, you know I NEVER hate on other artists. It's literally my job here on GGD to try and stop people from hating on other artists. But Madonna has crossed some kind of line with me where I don't even consider her a real artist any more. She's become a troll. The only thing "blatant" here is her desperate attempt at getting attention.
Psychedelic 1,098
Oh well, it IS true and the truth hurts around here. Madonna always loved Gaga before that song happened, but I would like to see her plan that will make this all go away and cease to be mentioned, as I love both ladies. All I can say is, we shall see what happens in the future and of Little Monsters opinions, when some new artist rips off a favorite Gaga song, say Bad Romance. Tides would for sure change then, and I would also make it known that the song was ripped off and act accordingly. It was entirely about the songs, not the ladies or the question of talent of the two. I think it goes beyond a single song. There are many things that little monsters fail to realize and that's why they instantly hate on Madonna. But I, as fan of both artists, can tell that what initially drew my attention to Gaga is that she resembled Madonna so much. Yes, she is different, her talents are different but the the recipe is the same. Blond pop girls, with outrageous outfits, making statements, sleazy lyrics, supporting gays in theatrical pop performances and many othe rthings. What if a band of 4 boys came out, preaching about peace and love, with simple yet extraordinary lyrics about love and rock and roll sound, then making a transition to psychedelic rock and taking lsd while standing against war. What would The Beatles sya? How would their fans feel? There are many female artists who have been inspired by Madonna, but not in so many ways like Gaga. And it wasn't even Madonna the first to realize and point it out, it was the media, the gp, and casual fans of both. But it's easier for monsters to attack the biggest target, and just call Madonna a pressed old hag.
Andy McQueen 4,484
Heres a video comparing the two https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3Y7dqkeEUg Madonna also ripped off Public Enemy on Justify My Love. This one is shockingly obvious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41acpnQaM1o Anyway, I love Gaga and Madonna so hopefully this can finally end. It would be great if they did something together one day but I'm not holding my breath. Agree!!! I want peace.

She said that Gaga blatantly copied Express Yourself. THAT is a lie. That's just not possible that Gaga would have intentionally copied another artist and expected to get away with it. Daniel W 150
Look. The title doesn't really give justice to what Madonna really said in context. We live in a world where people like to pit women against each other. And this is why I love the idea of embracing other females who are doing what I'm doing. It's important for us to support each other. The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt like she blatantly ripped off one of my songs. It's got nothing to do with 'she's taking my crown' or 'she's in some space of mine.' She has her thing. I do think she's a very talented singer and songwriter. It was just one issue. And everybody's obviously run with it and turned into a huge feud, which I think is really boring, quite frankly. And you know what? I don't care anymore. Here's the thing: One day everyone's going to just shut up about it. You'll see! I have a plan.Brilliant! Feud over! Madonna had her issue with Gaga, but thinks she is talented and wants to support her. Can we focus on this instead of dragging old comments through the dirt again?Yes I agree that Madonna acted immature at times, Gaga didn't help the situation at times either when she lied about M emailing her and such. It's over now it was only one issue and Madonna doesn't care about it.Let us move on and just end this silly feud.Great post :applause:

THAT is a lie. That's just not possible that Gaga would have intentionally copied another artist and expected to get away with it. Well, imo I think it's quite possible. I love the BTW album for one specific reason, Gaga tried to resemble different 80's hits in her songs with a new futuristic and dark sound of her own. Fashion Of His Love resembles Whitney's I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Electric Chapel resembles Billy Idol's White Wedding, and I can go on like that with at least half of the album... Why wouldn't we simply accept that maybe Gaga wanted to resemble the sound of Express Yourself in BTW the song, as an homage, not as copy because they're obviously different, yet you can hear the similarities. Probably some people don't but it wasn't even Madonna the one who pointed out it was the GP and the media who did right after the song was released and Madonna didn't speak about it until one year later, when obviously asked by media in interviews while promoting her album. And let's not forget Gaga herlself admitted it once... 8:25 min https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNP3ZVKSE2s

Runway 27,876
The poor 1980's Lady Gaga. Only way she gets headlines these days are for her aging knees or whenever is asked about more talented, relevant artists
blacklistedd 599
How is she dragging it up? the interviewer brought it up & she answered. She didn't say anything wrong, she (just like so many other people) thought Gaga ripped one of her most memorable songs, she mentioned how she thinks Gaga is very talented, Madge obviously means well and her intentions are bright. No, they're b/s. She knew what she was doing, she stirred the pot on purpose, she knew the media was going to take it where they did and she used it and reveled in it. And in this interview shes trying to play it like its some crime against females within the industry or something. She manipulated perception by throwing Gaga under the bus and it worked to her advantage for a good second but now all she has to show for herself are her mediocre efforts. Clearly this interview took place before the oscars so its not like this is some ploy to feed on the massive amount of press gaga is receiving, but anyway no one should paint Madonna as some sort of well intentioned feminist that wants to unite female artists. As far as her behavior towards Gaga SHE is the b---h in the situation. Theres just no arguing that.

She can't call for peace while at the same time throwing down her harshest accusation of BTW ever.I heard from Madonna fans for years that "reductive" does not mean "copy", and that Madonna was never accusing Gaga of blatant plagiarism. But now Madonna IS accusing her of that, while at the same time praising Gaga, thus giving both fan bases something to fight about. She's being a TROLL, imo. Dreamscape1896 0
I don't know what people are talking about. They really do not sound that a like - honestly. I just listened to Express Yourself and then Born This Way, and besides the beginning a little because of the talking, they pick up a totally different sound, feeling, speed. I mean the instrumentals are completely different sounds. I guess they have the same chord progression but to someone who doesn't know music in that depth, I would never tell anything. Either way, it was not a blatant rip-off. I see more blatant rip-offs all over the radio of choruses that are complete copies of choruses of songs long forgetting from the 80s, and no one gets in trouble. Songs are allowed to sound a like, especially when they are in the same genre, and um, the topic was the same - because it's a very important topic, then and now. Madonna did not create the idea of individuality. It is a shared idea, and perhaps Gaga was building off her song a little because Gaga has referenced Madonna as a huge inspiration many a time. And, at the same time, it's funny how Madonna is sort of trying to back-track too and say how she appreciates her music and recognizes her talent. Yeah, now that Gaga gave that amazing Oscar performance, as well as was given a role in AHS, we see she is not going anywhere yet. So of course, Madonna acts in her usual sort - conniving and b---hy. Yes, the interviewer did ask the question, but Madonna has to learn to keep her mouth shut. If you are going to say she blatantly ripped off your song, you are not over it - you are smoke and mirrors. What I really love about Gaga is except for a few times when she really couldn't take it, she keeps her cool and let's the haters just argue about her in a corner with themselves, which is exactly what Madonna has done. It's sad to see, really. Madonna is an epic in pop music and has had such a great career. Too bad she has shown herself up for becoming a bitter, insecure woman. It's funny, the other pop girls she can handle, but she really has no clue what to do with Gaga. That's right Gaga, keep that nasty old queen squirming with your talent and sheer beautiful soul.
