Still can't believe that Jewels & Drugs is on ARTPOP.

Right? BN was a pop gem, and TEA and Temple probably were too. JnD was a mess! While she has shown that she can take on other genres very well (Jazz, RnB), her foray into hip hop sounded very contrived to me. I mean if she really wanted to put a hip hop song on there, I think even Bitch Dont Kill my Vibe was a stronger track. The rappers' verses are the sonic equivalent of a scrap quilt, they don't fit together at all and are just squashed in there held together by a few stitches of 808 drum and wobble synths. And that hook is just... :smh: And I hate that she bandwagonned the trap trend because "EDM is like kool to dance 2 and stuffs." The last time I cringed that hard at an obvious effort to stay in with the cool kids was when Madonna named her album after a club d--g.

Sorry I have a lot of bitterness over BN not being released lol.

For those of you who love J&D for its production, you will enjoy listening to to DJWS's other trap projects, Keys n Krates, Flosstradamus, and RL Grime.

It's a fun song with playful lyrics, stellar production, 3 great rap artists, and a really catchy hook. Stay pressed or move on with ya life tbh. :thetea:

well what is ARTPOP about?

I don't get it

wasn't it about mixing art and pop music in one record?

Gaga said from the very beginning, even before the hip injury, that the album was basically the opposite of Born This Way. She said it was a fun record that had a serious lack of the sense of maturity that Born This Way had. I think the art part, like in the past, was meant to be carried out through visuals like the videos, performances, etc. When all of her plans for Venus got scrapped, things started going downhill. That's when her plans and ideas for ARTPOP started to fall through the cracks because of Troy and whoever else, because remember everything in the Applause era was spot-on and great visually, especially Swine Fest. But anyway, the album itself and the music were never meant to be about mixing art and pop. It was always meant to be a fun, playful record where she experimented with different genres she hadn't tried before. People say the album changed so much after the hip injury, but even before that she already called it a fun record with a lack of maturity like I said earlier, and that seems to coincide just fine with her "one long night the club" description she gave to the album around the time of its release. People just get so caught up in the title being ARTPOP when it was never "I'm making an album that mixes artistic musical elements with pop music" or something that explicitly matches the term "ARTPOP." The album we have matches what she said it would be from the beginning other than the fact that she talked like there would be more pure EDM on it that there is.

I love the production, but the song itself is a mess :toofunny:

I see

well I think the problem was the name of the album, it confuses people a lot, it should have just been VENUS or something like that tbh

The Fame

The Fame Monster

Born This Way

VENUS

sounds good to me

My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48

Yeah, I love love love the name ARTPOP, but Venus or Goddess of Love or something would've been a better fit. It could've even had the same album cover tbh, it still would've worked well with one of those names!

mte

the name ARTPOP is way to cofusing, meanwhile something like VENUS or Goddess of Love could have gotten praise and success, the name of a project matters a lot

wish she would've made it more pure EDM and made it flow from one song to the next tbh.

I understand the purpose of Dope & Gypsy but wish there'd been no slow songs or non-EDM songs tbh.
