They continued on their own musical paths, but she always called Newman when she needed jazz players. Newman has nothing but praise for Lady Gaga's musicianship and her jazz instinct. "She'd just show up at the Oak Bar at the Plaza Hotel or another spot I was playing, and start singing with us. We didn't announce it, but people would soon figure it out. She came in like a musician, and knew exactly what songs she wanted to do, what key to sing it in, she knew the tempo, and so many of those things that are lost on modern singers," he says.
