HuffingtonP: Gaga was the biggest pop star in the world What happened?

In looking at all three we see where Madonna and Perry have maintained their fame while Gaga has waned.

This statement alone invalidated the whole thing. None of these three have successfully maintained their fame at all times. To single out Gaga as the one whose fame dwindled since the beginning of this decade, w/c is practically the same time Katy finally rose to superstardom with TD after two years of already having a worldwide hit and Madonna collaborated with the likes of Nicki Minaj and LMFAO and released MDNA, is the same as saying that the other two didn't suffer any form of commercial underperformance at all. And that's bogus. Ignoring that is just as worse as ignoring the fact that Gaga is currently enjoying her 'brightest' period with the commercial and critical success of C2C this 2015 since the months leading up to the release of BTW, the single, in 2011.

Nah, Gaga doesn't have to do anything.

The lot of you can continue yapping about how this article is right and Gaga "needs" to accept a certain reality of her career, but she knows, more or less, what she is and what feels right to her.

Let her do what feels right to her and stop acting like beating Katy Perry and Madonna will be the epiphany of her career. It's a spit in her face. You belittle her as a musician.

Fact of the matter for all of you agreeing with this article is that you are still here. And it's utterly pathetic that you're here because you're only waiting for her to change her direction. Stop clinging to her past glory, you ****ing broken records. :smh:

ikr?  I hate the competitive nature of pop stans.   Its music and art, not a sports team or the stock market.

I want Gaga to have a long and varied career testing her skills in many different directions.   Just trying to be the "top" pop star, by whatever definition, is thinking too small for her.

I'm not going to worry about what thousands of irrelevant pop fans swinging their &#**@ on online forums think of Gaga's own "relevance," and she shouldn't either.

This is biased and why are we even discussing this? You can find these comments (where they say she decayed, once made good music and she isn't as good as Katy/Madonna) in the YouTube comment section of any Gaga video. This article tired.

Her engagement is such a big deal that even Perez ate his pride and posted about it.

This article is next level stupid.

:applause:

And "off-brand" engagement? What :awkney:

Perhaps this article was written a few weeks prior.

It's 2015, Huff Post, try to keep up, you are beginning to sound old and irrelevant!

Why is this BS still discussed? That amateurish excuse of an article that could have been written by any basic twinx on forum like ATRL (or GGD for that matter), that is irrelevant really, just an opinion based on nothing but subjective feelings, with no facts or references to support what's written. Any serious media would've not considered this for publication.

That's not what the author's saying at all.

Everyone is interpreting this "authenticity" thing wrong.

If I'm being blunt, the argument is that Gaga forgot that she's a top 40 pop star and somehow got it into her head that she's this next-level high art god. Katy Perry is literally as generic as generic gets, and that's fine. While Madonna was controversial and made subversive statements like Gaga does, she kept herself relevant by continuously putting out super marketable music. Gaga has not only turned her persona into "artiste", but also has tried to transcend all music and make statements through that. And furthermore, Gaga's deviated from her original theme of "competition for fame" to something about art.

BASICALLY- Gaga isn't anchoring herself in pop music anymore. Of course she's not going to be successful. It's only when she learns how to balance out her desire to transcend mediums and her need to be commercial that she'll be at the top of her game again.

I see no objectively false statements.

Gaga doesn't need to be commercial.  She is following her artistic vision and creativity regardless of how many people like it.  She's true to herself.  That's authenticity.  She creates for her art, and ARTPOP was a commercial success because enough people liked it.

I agree that Gaga isn't anchoring herself in pop music anymore.  She's exploring anything that inspires her.  With her talent, she'll do well.  If she rises to the top it will be on her terms, not because she pandered to commercialism.  I expect there will be better promotion, but the music will be Gaga's creative vision.

I live outside the space time continuum.

I honestly believe if Gaga wanted to release another Poker Face, she could. But she's proved she can be successful and can have hits, so why should she have to prove herself over and over again? She's moving away from chartier stuff now and doing stuff that she's more interested in, which the public might not be into that much, but it's her career and she can do what she wants with it. I'd rather have an album full of some of the best, most experimental music she's ever made than another "The Fame", honestly.

I agree, but I feel like this next album may be more plays off of Bad Romance and Poker Face since she's working with RedOne. Still, I definitely agree that she's earned the respect and pull in the industry to basically do whatever she wants to

You know someone is over when you have to write an article to try to convince people that they are over. :toofloppy:
And the article generates tons of comments with people passionately arguing about Gaga (like they all have since The Fame.)

Reading through some of this post, and lol @ John Mayer having more respect for Gaga than some of the members on here. Why do some even bother to be on here.

madonna and katy perry shove inauthenticity into their work because theyre not as talented, or subjectively not talented at all. THATS why. gaga may not be the most popular or liked, but she is the most talented. what a shame, because shes been giving the best performances of her career the past few months and yet no one wants to acknowledge it, no one wants to celebrate the LEAPS shes taken vocally, leaps that katy, britney, madonna, rihanna, and not even ariana grande can match.

Whispering

What a joke!

This was clearly written by some butthurt Madonna stan. Guess he is pissed that the new single and album aren't getting much attention, so he had to try and figure out a way to pull Gaga down. It didn't work. Everyone with any sense knows exactly what this article is.

This tweet I saw says it all. End of story.
