From the interview with Event magazine:

She bristles to learn that Taylor Swift is in the process of trademarking the English language by staking a claim for the phrase ‘this sick beat’, among others.

‘F*** that!’ Faith explodes. ‘“This sick beat†is probably something she’s stolen from someone else. 'It’s kind of pathetic, if you want my honest opinion. Is she that desperate to stand out from the crowd? With her exclusive phrases? I think it shows a distinct lack of self-confidence.’

I love Paloma, but she didn't need this.

I thought she was smart enough to realize this has 0 to do with Taylor and has everything to do with her lawyers/record label/merchandise department. It's standard procedure.

Uhm, it's not a standard procedure for popstars to do this.

If this were standard procedure people wouldn't be blowing up. The fact it was even granted to her sets a scary precedent.

Most pop artists do this with their merchandise, only it doesn't get reported.

Taylor's image is so clean that this is the only thing ppl can drag her about.  :toofloppy:  Anyway, but 1989 on iTunes!

Why is she so touchy about a simple phrase like 'this sick beat? I think it shows a distinct lack of self-confidence

Go Paloma! Love her even more now (props for the stuff she said about 50 Shades of Grey too!) She makes a great point - trademarking basic phrases smacks of a crisis of confidence. And whoever was the first to say "this sick beat" (because that phrase was around YEARS, maybe even TWO DECADES before Taylor said it) should be the one trademarking it and attempting to sue Taylor for copyright theft.

Are you kidding? Only the biggest divas in the industry pull stunts like this. Big Machine Records is Taylor's b***h. They will bend over backwards for her, let her make whatever music she wants, obey her every command because she was their first signing and their biggest ever seller. They wouldn't do stuff like this without her permission or blessing. It's rare that someone of Taylor's age can hold so much power, but she definitely has it. She practically OWNS that record label for all the power she holds over it. You can be a fan all you want, but you need to know when to remove the fan goggles.

This I mean it's not like she came up with an original phrase, it's just the word sick and the word beat, nothing crazy.  :madge:
