Cody Draco 2,531
Pop songs with guest rap verses are gold. They reach a wider audience, forge relationships between artists, and get tons of air play. Guest rap verses have a history of bettering rap songs, and in the examples that follow, we’re arguing that they make pop songs better, too. From Kanye West on Katy Perry’s “E.T.†to Nicki Minaj on Justin Bieber’s “Beauty And A Beat,†these are nine rap verses that saved entire pop songs. Wiz Khalifa on "Payphone" by Maroon 5 One more f-cking love song and we’d be sick, too, Adam Levine. “Payphone†marked Maroon 5′s entrance into the pulse of popdom, as the band that gave us Songs About Jane traded in guitar rhythms for dance beats. Wiz Khalifa’s appearance on the song helped promote Maroon 5′s new image as a pop band. Eminem on “Numb†by Rihanna Rihanna was Unapologetic about how bizarre this song is, and Eminem was just as unapologetic about calling himself the “butt police†on it. Kanye West on “E.T.†by Katy Perry Katy Perry and Kanye West seem like an unlikely combination, but seeing as how Kanye once reworked a Lorde song, stranger things have happened. Thank you, Yeezus, for saving this hot pop mess from itself. Big Sean on “As Long As You Love Me†by Justin Bieber Big Sean is more romantic in his guest rap verse than Justin Bieber is in the entire song. Follow Big Sean’s lead, would you, Biebs? Lil Wayne on “Down†by Jay Sean Okay, we realize it takes a lot to save Jay Sean’s song from itself, but Lil Wayne came through, as he always does. Juicy J on “Dark Horse†by Katy Perry We get the imagery Katy was going for here, but she drove it home so hard, she ended up beating a dead horse. Nicki Minaj on “Beauty And A Beat†by Justin Bieber The Biebs could use some help in general, and Nicki Minaj did what she could to keep “Beauty And A Beat†from being just another Justin Bieber dance song. Her guest lyric of choice reminds us that you shouldn’t take either of these two too seriously. Ludacris on “How Do You Sleep†by Jesse McCartney Hindsight: what if Jesse McCartney and Luda had collaborated when Jesse was still in Dream Street? Snoop Dogg on “California Girls†by Katy Perry California girls are unforgettable, but this song isn’t. Snoop Dogg saved it by giving our ears a break from the song’s bubblegum pink sound and music video. RAMROD 108,827
I disagree with Eminem one thouh I like him. That and the one he did for Pink were the worst delivery he ever did thus far in his career. It is so embarassing. Pure Adrenaline 1,518
Kanye West on “E.T.†by Katy Perry couldn't agree more, Kanye made me have this song on my phone through the whole 2011 It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely
Paper Gangsta 6,693
Juicy J on “Dark Horse†by Katy Perry We get the imagery Katy was going for here, but she drove it home so hard, she ended up beating a dead horse. wtf lol So Juicy J's verse is reason why it sold almost 6m in US alone ? Morphine Prince 105,428
I only agree that the rapper saved the song in Down. Lil' Wayne did make it more interesting. In the rest, the rappers were not needed or didn't overall imapact the song. Although I do enjoy Kanye, Juicy J, and Snoop on Katy's songs.
uo111 5,254
E.T. is much better without Kanye. Snoop Dawg only add camp factor to California Girls but he certainly doesn't sound good on it. And the radio often cuts Juicy J out of Dark Horse Flop list imo. Not a huge fan of Katy but I'm even less of a fan of her rap features.
Psychedelic 1,098
E.T. is still great without Kanye
Dayman 6,153
All those Katy Perry songs are still just as good without the rappers. Nobody is singing along to the rap - they're singing along to the chorus. Actually, E.T. was ruined by Kanyes rap in my opinion. Snoop Dogg on California Gurls is pretty good - suprisingly it doesn't seem out of place. Dark Horse is very meh when it comes to Juicy J. I don't like Katy, but I'm not going to be in denial either. Haldy 1,258
I'm usualy here for a good bit of Katy Perry shade, but honestly... all of those songs of hers listed are so much better without the phone in raps their respective artists provided. Sugarfall 3,723
I strongly disagree about ET and Dark Horse. The solo version of ET is miles better and I only listen to that. I wish DH had a sung bridge instead of a rap. Definitely agree about Beauty and a Beat.
