Blue Jeans 3,815 Posted January 19, 2015 Share Posted January 19, 2015 Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Franklin Foulks was in the middle of processing a local teen, Jamal Rutledge, when he apparently began to have a heart attack. In the surveillance video below, Officer Foulks is seen writhing on the floor. Rutledge, still in handcuffs, walks over to the officer and then proceeds to call for help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwpLXMQQpxE According to a press release from the Fort Lauderdale police department, other officers quickly arrived on the scene and began to preform CPR on Officer Foulks. "Broward Health Medical Staff noted that Rutledge’s actions and the quick response of these officers were largely responsible for Officer Foulks surviving this medical episode," the department wrote in a statement. Given the tension between cops and minority communities resulting from the Eric Garner and Michael Brown non-indictments, it's nice to see both parties treating each other with kindness, compassion and respect. ABC News reports that the officers who came to Foulks' aid, including 17-year-old Rutledge, originally arrested for allegedly violating probation and burglary, will receive an honorary award. "We wanted to make sure we commended him for making the right decision," one of the officers told ABC. "We wanted to make a positive impact on him and his vision of police officers."
