Bye 3,947
that's from 2010. Rated R sold 1 million + with 2009 sales. Poor ARTPOP
Chic 20,830
I mean... I know I bought it. But it bothers me because I don't know how much of that was Katy's doing and how much of that was her record label and production/writing teams. I dont know why but with Gaga it feels like she has much more agency over her music than Katy does. That's why these numbers hurt. Why does it matter? How much of TF/TFM/BTW do we know was Gaga's doing, considering the quality we saw from her then that coincidentally seemed to drop after most of that team was fired/left her? I didn't know music was a one person job. Katy CAN write, but she works with amazing writers because they are talented at making addicting pop music. I don't see what's so wrong with that. She wrote Dark Horse which was a #1 hit and the entirety of the OOTB album, which is a lot of people's favorite from her. People are so quick to wonder why people are labeled singers if they can't sing and yet they feel that to be respected you must automatically be a singer AND writer, and I don't recall ever seeing the requirements for a singer involving songwriting ability? There are some great somgwriters out there that can't sing and they need people like Katy or Rihanna to sing their work. These songs are undeniably great, it's just that people have a problem with the singer and they categorize her whole team into it. Then there's the matter of blaming anything wrong with Katy's work on her and everything right on her team, selectively cherry picking her efforts to demean her in any way possible regardless of the usage of logic. I'd like to think music is about working by yourself and with others. Katy has done both. I see no problem with this.

Chic 20,830
I agree with the bold part tho Teenage Dream is an incredible pop album. The only reason it sounds silly to say that anymore is because of people like you who have demeaned Katy and her work until any appraisal of her has become ridiculous. TD is the highlight of her career and fantastic in so many ways. However cool you may think it is to hate Katy and whatever justification you use to believe as such, there's very little foundation for not respecting a great album like TD. The quality didn't drop tho, ARTPOP was just as great as her other albums If you say so.

I agree with 1000% about Katy, she's a great artist that has put out a lot of great music. I love Teenage Dream, I bop to the cd all the time. But explain to me how ARTPOP is below her other albums, because I don't see it.

Chic 20,830
I'm sorry, no. It may be a great album for you but it's not to me and many others. Don't trivialize its acclaim by backing up your opinion with the distaste of TD from monsters and other pop girl fans. The album is pop gold, its singles are catchy as all hell and it had 6 top ten hits including 5 #1's not including the re-release's two top 3 hits including another #1. Why would these all chart so high if they weren't acclaimed? The hate for Katy is real.I agree with 1000% about Katy, she's a great artist that has put out a lot of great music. I love Teenage Dream, I bop to the cd all the time. But explain to me how ARTPOP is below her other albums, because I don't see it. The production on many songs was lazy and watered down, the quality and uniqueness of the lyrics dropped, there were no catchy Gaga-ish hooks that she's known for, the concept was lazily thrown together and it feels like a bunch of demos. The highlights are Aura, G.U.Y, Venus, DWUW, MJH, Gypsy and Applause. Sexxx Dreams was fine during Swinefest but she messed it up on the album. I personally thought the production was great, the songs were catchy and that the concept was interesting. But I guess we can agree to disagree.
