Racism is still very alive, people need to talk about it.

It's hard to discuss here when you have a whole group of people wanting to be victims. It wouldn't be so bad if they just acknowledged racism is alive but most are in denial and feel like they're being attacked? Very sad.

But I thought we were a COLORBLIND SOCIETY in which we all "bleed red!!111" and obnoxious SJWS are in a tizzy over nothing.

:teehee:

Although from the article, the Sony producer isn't saying he thinks that's how it should be, he thinks it's the audiences that won't shell out as much money for Black leads.

Willy Wonka

no but I thought white people only get parts because they're more talented and have better attitudes

Can Denzel Washington's lack of international success be blamed on racism, or is it due to the fact that every single movie he has made for the past decade is the same ****ing movie with subtly different plot points?

Well, DUH, Willy! We are a colorblind society! We don't judge! Clearly white people are just so much more talented than everyone else!

Economy

forgive me but... if i was investing $100 million plus in a movie and i knew the leading character being black was gonna affect its sales i probably wouldnt put a black person on a leading role either as harsh as that sounds

but they should of kept it to themselves. Not everything has to be publicly confessed :rip:

EDIT: i also wanna mention, its really no different than wanting some attractive hot stud for a romance movie to be the main character vs someone ugly u know wont sell :rip:

The thing is, there are almost no black people living in huge markets like Russia or some other European countries which makes it understandable why people there are less likely to relate to a black lead actor. Is it still racism?

i say its business

when u have target audiences, u stereotype. thats the way it is.

In this case if they know in many coutnries a black leading actor is gonna make it less appealing, they arent gonna put him or her

its no different than wanting a hunk for a romance movie vs someone ugly to play prince charming. The hunk will sell more wont he? so why invest money in something that wont sell just because of who is chosen as the actor? :coffee:

No sis. Racism what you see online is not "alive and well". It's excuses and people pulling the race card anytime they can because they can. It's not racism, it's people who want attention. If it was real racism, in which african americans were segregated, I'd care. I'd tell people to stop and be in rallies. But no, it's not racism.

So racism ended nationally in 1964? :awkney:

2014 has been the catalyst for all the frustration PoC have been feeling for a long time, so the moment the spark ignites, we just don't care anymore and we are going to tell people how we feel without having to be so hush-hush about it. If racism makes you uncomfortable, THEN GOOD.

It's a business most def, but I also think the same can be said for other people too. That doesn't stop majority of Hollywoods films airing in continents like Asia and Africa still having White male/female leads. And films with majority people of color still don't get funding. It's sad, but Hollywood needs money and they'll see fit. The whole email was insightful and saddening.

From there point of view it's bad enough Americans dominate world movie culture, and if Americans want to maximize that dominance they have to cater to locals somewhat. That likely includes tastes of Asian audiences too. They can be quite racist.
