what he/she means i guess is that you dont see hispanic people go on a rant against madonna because she used latin influences. you only see black people doing so against anyone who tries to hip hop or rap because they claims its theirs. and by saying she s guilty you have just proven his/her point

Um, I'm not an expert on Madonna but as far as I know, a lot of latinos HAVE criticized Madonna for over-s-xualizing Latin male bodies and appropriating other cultures. (Google it!) Just because you personally don't have a problem with it doesn't mean that it isn't cultural appropriation.

nah it wasn't that much, most of the critics she received from the world, especially the hispanic communities was for her religious stuff in her music in videos

again I am latino and I don't seen anything wrong in what Madonna has done so far with latin rythms and videos like la isla bonita

btw she slays in this flamenco dress

I  Japanese Culture

I know a lot of their history

I try to learn hiragana, katakana and kanji

I'm always using Japanese words with my family and they find it cute/funny, not with my friends tho

I have a cheap male kimono that someone gave years ago which I use at home to sleep

I'm learning Karate right now

I have the ingredients to make sushi and onigir at home right now

I love anime

I listen to J-POP or K-POP artists singing in japanese like SNSD

am I a mother ****er for this?

is this cultural appropriation?

should I be shot in the head for this?

While on tour in Puerto Rico, she put the nation's flag in her crotch. She had to leave the stage because riots broke out. I don't think she's been back since then.

Like I said before....alot of non african americans don't understand why its such an issue, and you know what, thats fine. But don't condemn Azealia, or anyone for that matter, for feeling that way.

I do understand the issue, I just think it's holding us all back by focusing on it. In the UK, we have a huge melting pot of races and we're all expected to get along, and we do, for the most part, with any racism being dealt with. We consider it a huge faux pas to make assumptions about someone based on their skin colour or assume that's purely where their identity lies. We think it's wrong to define someone based on their race (or define yourself in the same way). So, it throws me when I see so many races and cultures in America who actively define others and themselves based on the restrictions of their race/culture. What's so attractive about putting yourself in a box and conforming to what you've been told is right for your people? So much of racism is about telling people that you can't aim higher, that you should do what your race expects of you. If anything, we should be expanding our horizons, stepping outside stereotypes and expectations. In today's multicultural society where so many races and cultures are intermingling and living side by side, we need to experiment with other ways of doing things. That doesn't mean we need to forget our roots and original identity, just expand upon it, embellish it.

anyone who dares to say "just chill on the whole race debate" is clearly speaking from a place of privilege.

but sure, go on and support an artist who adds the word "master" to "runaway slave" lyrics as if it's cute and clever!!! but then turn around and instantly condemn a black artist for speaking her mind on racial issues in this country! and then on top of that, try to say that it's not about race!

give. me. a break.

Read my above reply to get a better idea of what I mean. What I'm trying to say is that an "us vs. them" mentality still prevails in America and it's not healthy. Staying within the rigid walls of your community and never integrating makes race issues worse, not better. Maybe it's too much to ask, but I just want a world where all races can live in harmony.

I haven't found this lyric that's being spoken of, so if you could direct me to it, that would be great. Don't get me wrong, this is very problematic, bear in mind that a lot of rap can contain morbid, controversial lyrics that are at times, designed to be said purposely to stir the pot, so it might not be meant seriously. I'm not condeming a black artist for speaking her mind on racial issues, I just think she's going about it in the wrong way, and coming from a place that is very judgemental and racist. And I do think this is about race: I think that's the whole reason Azealia chose Iggy to pick on - she just wanted a white person to bring down, and what better than one who is having a moment right now?

Madonna literally ripped off "Vogue" from black gay culture in 1980s NYC, so yes, I would say she is definitely guilty of cultural appropriation.

Is anything that came from another culture racial appropriation to you? When is it simply being interested in something different? I'm white and I can speak a good amount of Spanish, spend a huge amount of time in a Latin-themed dance school, dance Arabic belly dance and Indian bhangra dance, am a big fan of urban music and hip hop dance and eat large amounts of Spanish, Italian, Indian and Chinese food. Is all that cultural appropriation to you? Or just enjoying elements of other cultures?

Yes because that what AB is saying should happened to people who appropriate   :coffee:

Its a VERY specific issue when it comes to Hip Hop and Black Culture vs Whites. And I'm sorry that you are not getting it :ohwell:

I agree that UK has a very different racial climate, but I don't know the specifics, because I don't live there. But there is a lot of racial tension in America ESPECIALLY right now. And I agree its a backwards to define someone by their race, but in America you can't really avoid it. Because in America there is a lot of injustice against blacks in general, and thats what gets Azealia so upset. How for the past 80 years everything the blacks have made for themselves in American was taken from them, flipped, made to carter the pop audience and the blacks never get their credit. THATS why I say Hip Hop is a very specific issue. Now yes Azealia's dismay for Iggy comes from a more shallow place. Back in 2011/12 she sees this white girl, with her name, mocking the accent of her people with a "runaway slave master line" and a whip motion...and its like who does this girl think she is. Now fast forward to 2014 and now she's all of sudden "the queen" of rap. She didn't earn it.... Her record wasn't better than Nicki's it wasn't better than Azealia's...It wasn't better than Angel Haze's either. So why is she the queen of rap? Oh its because she's benefiting from her white privilege. In America, a POC has to work MUCH harder to get to the same spot as a non POC not to mention all the extra obstacles. But its not Iggy's fault, and Azealia should blame her for that. Thats just how it works in America, its ****ed up, but theres nothing we can do about it. She is saying that Rap and Hip Hop are some of the only things African American are holding on to, but not in a way that white people CANT join in, (Eminem was an AMAZING lyricist, who never appropriated black culture and they just did his own thing, Ed Sheeran, Asher Roth, Watsky, too and MIA) it just stings how mediocrity is exalted to the forefront due to white privilege. And no one should take away how Azealia feels about it. Because a lot of black kids our age don't care, and they should.

I finally took the time to watch this entire interview. I do have to say I really admire the way azealia speaks her mind so freely even though at points she comes off as very rude and ignorant in the interview.

1. All this culture appropriation talk is annoying. It's more like being influenced off of another culture and admiring the culture more than anything.

2. The color of your skin shouldn't limit you to do certain things, acting certain ways, or making a specfic type of music

3. Azealia needs to stop acting like a know it all and needs to stop crying

So you're saying Azealia doesn't have the right to feel?

No that's not what I'm saying. She just needs to stop crying and acting like a big whine baby. She's acting like she's some type of culture activist. She needs to realize outside of online forums and some blogs nobody really gives a **** what she's saying because nobody knows who she is. She's talking to herself half of the time.

I can't with you, and you want people to believe you're not a racist. :bye:

Nothing I just said was racist though. So because I think azealia needs to stfu and stop crying I'm racist again now? God damn, you literally can't say **** without someone giving you a title nowadays.

And yeah it's not regular people watching it, they could care less. It's online forums, blogs, music websites, fans of both azealia and iggy
