I totally get why do people associate HIM with emo style. First, the lyrics are really emotional. Love and death are the main subjects of pretty much every song, which may sound a bit depressive, wimpy and even suicidal to people who don't know much about HIM and Ville. Join me in death is their biggest hit and I mean, that title could be characterized as emo and so could the song lyrics. Add to it the image of make-up covered Valo and poppy sound of the song and there you have it, almost every stereotype associated with emo can be recognized in that one song. The song that is for most people the only HIM song they know and that the whole band and their music are often judged by. Ignorant, so irrelevant for me.

They have always been in the middle. Too soft for metal, too hard for pop, so yeah I would call them a rock band.

I am not annoyed with people calling them names and there were a lot worst names than emo. People spit on many things I love, so I don't see the point in being bitter. Screw them.

And true emo was punk/rock-ish, not this pop sh** @Sister posted.

I've been corrected that that band / song that I posted is "scene".

I really do not use many of the genre categories when speaking of bands, I just lump all of them into the main ones, like pop or rock.

Yeah. And I would add metal.

Scene huh? Never heard of that genre.:wtf:

I like the fact that HIM is pretty impossible to categorize. Guess that's why I love them so much. I love pop, rock and metal music so much and I feel like they are a perfect mixture of everything I love. Plus the voice. Perfect dark coloured, deep but also soft voice.

There are now so many genres in the metal music category,  I looked it up just to see what came up and HIM are listed under Gothic Metal here. They do not even list them all, there are even more, like scene. I would not ever call HIM emo though, because they aren't whiny, I hate whiny music and vocals and if HIM was whiny, I would never have taken them up.

I think that just rock band fits them, they change every album, but still keep the essentials.

Love Metal~

@Twisted Shadows What do You think Adam, can you imagine these two singing together, good or bad? I ask you, because you love rock music, but you also like Halestorm. This cover is so awesome!

Greetings, thank you for summoning me.

As what I would think of Ville Valo singing with Lzzy Hale, it would be an interesting harmonization to see the graceful style of Ville's gothic vocals mingled with Lzzy's range from ballad anthem to raging vocals? Of course a experiment of a collaboration of this nature would be a good thing for rock, as it mixes styles and gives fruit to further inspiration for great music and opens up doors for different audiences to discover a degree of rock they may not be familiar with or new to.

It is similar to how I was surprised how well King Diamond and Michael Poulson from Volbeat harmonized on the song, Room 24 or Maria Brink's collaborations with Brent Smith from Shinedown or with Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach. Every collaboration is a musical experiment of harmonizing, if it can be achieved. Lady Gaga mentioned once that collaborations are like unions, a celebration of a union in a sense.

Sometimes, I see HIM as Depeche Mode covered in the blood of Slayer and Nine Inch Nails, yet caked with sweets and frosting of the Cure, New Order, and David Bowie. Lzzy Hale is like the long lost child of Axl Rose and Joan Jett. So why the hell not?

Was that what you were asking when referring to "these two?"

Do your own research.

Did you know btw that HIM's guitarist Linde is engaged with Tony Iommi's daughter? :green:  Now they're like family with Black Sabbath. :D

What do you think about his solos?

Was. They split up.

My favourite solo is at the beginning of this performance, which is my favourite GWTS live performance.

I love The funeral of hearts solo, if that is solo. :wtf:
