I think you should watch both CNN and Fox to get different perspective of ideas of the events. I remember them showing a clip of 2011 Union worker protests from my hometown in Wisconsin. They showed how the Democratic protesters allegedly got "violent" with Republican Scott Walker's supporters. All while showing palm trees in the background. (We have no palm trees in Wisconsin. It's too cold to have them here.) They took a clip from a physical fight in California and tried to play it off as if it happened here. LOL. I'll stick to reading The Onion. Pretty close to FOX news. There is more violence in the black community, more violence in low income communities. Within those communities there is also a very strong "Don't Snitch" policy, which makes it harder for law enforcement to cut down on the crime that exists in those places. However. To take the issues in those communities and belittle them down to nothing but "Those people need to learn to respect the police!" is ignorant and laughable. When you have an entire community of people lacking trust in you, expressing anger with the way things are done, you need to listen. Even if you think they're wrong and they're the problem (because how COULD the race that enslaved them for years, lynched them less than a century ago, and only let them start share the same bus seats ~60 years ago be AT ALL to blame?!), you need to listen. If Vietnamese immigrants weren't doing well, they could blame colonialism and the devastation of the Vietnam War. Yet both groups excel. Asians have a lower crime rate than whites. Asians also have a culture of hyper-politeness, while blacks have a culture of hyper-masculinity. I find it interesting how so many people outside of minorities have such insight on what happens in the lives of minorities when it comes to racial disparities like this. I don't know if Lux is a troll or just simply deluded to the idea that minorities are treated like second-rate citizens, but this is the second time I've seen them bring up Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton; it's like that's their only argument(?) So when I hear "minority" my first instinct isn't to think black. Most of our blacks come from the Caribbean or direct from Africa, so they are culturally different from American ones too. Yet American media and racial discourse tends to swamp Canada anyway. That explains your comments. Maybe if you lived here, had close friends and family members who were in certain minority groups (where you could get first hand accounts from them) you would understand how very far off some of your opinions on racial relations in the US really are. You can watch media 24/7, but if you don't live it or at least have it intertwined in your life experiences, you are not going to understand fully what is really going on in the communities and neighborhoods across the US.
