Taylor Swift: "I have no interest in singing someone else's words"

It was late 2008 when I first heard her, and it was Love Story, one of the strongest earworms I've heard for a very long time. It just didn't get out of my head for months. It was the song of 2008 for me. And then I learned she wrote it all by herself. From that moment on, I was convinced that she's going to be like the next Mariah Carey in terms of songwriting. 5 years later, that pretty and carefree country singer has surprisingly become the country's most successful pop act since Britney Spears.

And she's a singer-songwriter who didn't originate from the hype of the mainstream pop. And that's why millions love her. She's a story-teller, and her stories are hers. With that in mind, one would know, deep down, that her future will only be brighter and bigger than her present. Garth Brooks has found his heiress, and she's also pop's most reliable songwriter of the current millennium. Keep writing, Taylor! And you'd keep getting the hearts of millions!

of course when your songwriting is far better than your singing

She is a storyteller.  Neil Young and Bob Dylan aren't the best vocalists in the world, but they were the poets for generations.  I also love their voices because they were distinctive and knew their limitations and wrote music for their vocal ability, but it's the lyrics, the melodies that grab me and that are classic songs for decades after decades and their way of performing them.   They are historically two of the most important artists in music.

I am not putting Taylor in their category by any stretch of the imagination, not even remotely close.  I am just saying there is more to music that moves people than a five-octave range voice.  She is a songwriter that is authentic in her music, that doesn't sound contrived, and has a great ear for melodies.

Wow, you've encapsulated my feelings on Tay, so well.

That song is written more by Imogen than Taylor tbh. It has her trademark all over the track both lyrically and production

Imogen had an interview where she said that she admired how Taylor wrote her own lyrics for the song to bring to her, don't make assumptions.  :smh:

I love how in control she is of her career. In this age, when countless artists seem to be treated so unfairly by their labels, it's nice to see one treating their artists right. Clearly, it's payed off :applause:

She is pretty much the only relevant artist from her label, ANY label would want her at any time so obviously she can do whatever the **** she wants and they can't control her. Slay Taylor sis :teehee:

I'm making assumptions based on the music I hear and you make assumptions based on what someone says in an interview, lets agree to disagree :kissga:

Absolutely no hate or malice directed toward Taylor, she's earned what she's gotten in terms of single success and album sales. What I really detest, however, is when the media treats her like she's just put out some legendary album whose content is just far superior than anything released in a few years. I'm sorry, but 1989 is a solid pop album, with solid song writing and appealing songs; that's it. I think anyone that's trying to make it into this Legendary sized record fit for the gods is going waaaaaaay too far.

To be honest I was expecting someone like Beyonce to hold the title and I'm just a casual fan of her. I thought that she had a much larger impact in terms of her surprise album release at the end of 2013 and her back to back concert tours and just her general visibility during the year. Apart from Beyonce, I can see others as well taking the title.

I just feel that Taylor came in around the last quarter of the year with a successful lead and second single, and an album and all of a sudden she's God, something many artists have done before. Just seems a bit much to me. Again this is no way a hate filled rant against her. I just think that people and the media are making it more than it is
