Pain of fame1 228
Okay when are we going to get to the conclusion that sales mean literally nothing. The quality of the music will trump however many sales Taylor Swift can pull from her faux-depressed 13 year old audience. I would rather listen to Jewels N' Drugs and Taylor's last album Totally agree! JND IS WAY BETTER THAN ALL 1989, so true

RexxyC 203
Sorry just wondering, why is it better to say sales? because apparently a lot of the users on here seem to agree that sales are more important than the actual material. Sad, really.

Mills 446
With the 2014 IFPI report of the world's best-selling albums finally released, Disney's 'Frozen' OST (2013) officially becomes the 16th album to move 10,000,000 units or more worldwide since 2004 and only the 3rd album released this decade (2010-present) to achieve the said milestone, after 2010's 'Recovery' by Eminem and 2011's '21' by Adele. It's also the only wide release film soundtrack in the digital era to sell above 7 million, and the second overall soundtrack after the OST of the hit movie made-for-television 'High School Musical' (2006), which was also produced and released by Disney. And among all releases this decade so far, it's only the 7th overall album to move more than 7 million units worldwide - joining the aforementioned albums of Eminem and Adele, in addition to Rihanna's Loud (2010), Lady Gaga's Born This Way (2011), Michael Buble's Christmas (2011), and fellow IFPI best-seller, Taylor Swift's 1989 (2014).http://www.ifpi.org/news/Global-digital-music-revenues-match-physical-format-sales-for-first-time

Mills 446
Does the IFPI top 10 albums report include shipments? And does the top 10 digital songs include streams? The term IFPI has been using in reference to their annual global top 10 albums is through "sales", both from physical and digital units, excluding stream equivalents. The idea that what they're reporting are 'shipments' is nothing but an assumption by those who find it hard to trust the info being directly supplied by the labels themselves to the IFPI. If IFPI explicitly says that their best-selling record lists are based on 'shipments', then by all means, they're without a doubt based on 'shipments', but then again that's not the case. It's ironic that most who discredit IFPI's reports as based on 'shipments' are usually the same ones who strongly consider the sales estimations of an independent website run by chart enthusiasts as the closest to the actual over-the-counter worldwide sales despite it being explicitly referred to as sales estimations. Without a global over-the-counter sales tracking system like Nielsen Music, it's impossible to genuinely differentiate the actual sales with actual shipments, and not just assumed ones. Hence, when it comes to reporting worldwide figures across all labels, the IFPI still remains as the sole recognized authority (i.e. the numbers which they report are the ones being recognized by the music industry, including the media partners like Billboard). As for the digital songs, yes they do. IFPI explicitly noted that track-equivalent streams are included alongside individual track downloads in determining their global top 10 digital singles since their 2013 report.
