Brazil Introduces Taylor Swift Law. Banning Tickets Sclaping And More

Brazil has introduced new concert regulations requiring free drinking water at large events and cracking down on ticket scalping, three years after a Taylor Swift fan died from heat exhaustion at an “Eras Tour” show in Rio de Janeiro.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed two decrees on Monday that have become known as the “Taylor Swift Law,”  One requires events with more than 1,000 attendees to provide free drinking water and allows concertgoers to bring their own water containers.

The other targets digital scalping, including the mass purchase of tickets using automated systems. Ticketing platforms must clearly disclose original prices and additional fees, while official ticket transfers must be available at no extra cost.

The measures follow years of pressure from organized fan groups. Representatives of fandoms for Swift, BTS, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, and other artists attended the signing ceremony in Brasília, O Globo reports.

Need this law in everywhere tbh. Corporate greed  causing water to cost so much at concerts. Like wdym a bottle of water is $7?!!

Kind of shocked in a country with a climate like Brasil that this wasn't already the law. 

Like even in the UK, businesses legally have to provide free tap water where available and outdoor events have to plan around water access/dehydration for H&S event plans

People outside Brazil know it as that cos, as mentioned on the article, the laws created after that incident at her show in that country. It's just easier for them, I guess. Not sure where "celebrating" coming from. Y'all fell on infamous GGD troll post and goes a long with it

I mean most of the big avenues in here do have water in case of dehydration etc. But on that particular day- you have no idea how unusually hot the weather was.  On Gaga's concert as an example, I was at the fan zone and there were hugeeee water boxes everywhere- the law it's just making it a standard.

Water, the most basic necessity after air should never be a source of revenue at events or a source of price gouging

 

If places at least sold at a price to cover cost of the bottle itself and a few cents markup id get it but several dollars a bottle is insane

 

Places only behave with regulation so i agree, we need this law everywhere or they will keep doing it

Because it's not common for people to die like that in concerts, the problem wasn't just the water it was also that the Brazilian company that brought the eras tour to the country put some big ass walls over the open parts of the venue so people outside couldn't see the show, increasing the heat inside the stadium, also in south America there isn't a organized seat layout for concerts in front of the stage like in the US. The combination of all these things caused the death of that poor girl.

But I'm glad they're pushing this law because banning water is ridiculous and more ridiculous is selling it at a higher price inside venues

The way Taylor did not give a f*** about that Brazilian fan who died... To this day I'm shocked at how she paid dust to it - definitely would've gone different it this was in the U.S.

My mom wanted to go a Gothic Rock festical called Cruel World a few years ago, but she couldn't and was sad about it. Now, she is happy she didn't because it was so ridiculously hot there and people were constantly fainting because of a lack of water.
