Mills 446
While the iTunes Music Store was officially launched in 2003, it was only in 2005 when the digital era of music was finally evident around the world: it's the year when iTunes hit 500 million overall downloaded songs, iTunes opened more stores in Europe, also launched in Japan and Australia, and the video-sharing website YouTube was born, a medium now used by billions to stream and share music. The rapid rise of digital music in 2005 eventually led for individual tracks (singles) to replace albums as the industry's biggest seller, making it rare for albums to move as much as the ones released pre-2003 (early 2000s, 1990s, 1980s, and so on). Be that as it may, here are the following albums which still managed to have reported worldwide (WW) sales of at least 7 million since late 2004, in chronological order: Artist / Album Title / Label / Release Date / Reported worldwide sales / Source Green Day - American IdiotReprise - September 2004 - 15 million unitshttp://umlconnector.com/2014/09/american-idiot-10-years-later/ Gwen Stefani - Love, Angel, Music, BabyInterscope - November 2004 - 7 million unitshttp://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1562569,00.html Eminem - EncoreShady / Interscope - November 2004 - 11 million unitshttp://www.last.fm/music/Eminem/Encore 50 Cent - The MassacreShady / Interscope - March 2005 - 9 million unitshttp://www.complex.com/music/2013/02/check-out-an-infographic-of-50-cents-career-by-the-numbers Mariah Carey - The Emancipation Of MimiIsland - April 2005 - 12 million unitshttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/3672721/Pop-CDs-of-the-week-Mariah-Carey-Pete-Molinari-and-more....html Black Eyed Peas - Monkey BusinessA&M / Interscope - May 2005 - 10 million unitshttp://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/princess-of-the-peas/story-e6frf96f-1225707791204?nk=8e76176b5d4639f71990170e584e018dColdplay - X&YParlophone - June 2005 - 13 million unitshttp://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10842560Nickelback - All The Right ReasonsRoadrunner - October 2005 - 15 million unitshttp://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/news/nickelback-best-of-20131010#__federated=1Madonna - Confessions On A Dance FloorWarner Bros. - November 2005 - 12 million unitshttp://blogs.suntimes.com/music/2008/04/madonna_hard_candy_warner_bros.htmlCarrie Underwood - Some HeartsArista Nashville - November 2005 - 9 million unitshttp://www.axs.com/news/carrie-underwood-announces-new-single-and-greatest-hits-album-21355 Shakira - Oral Fixation, Vol. 2Epic - November 2005 - 8 million unitshttp://www.bmi.com/news/entry/535199 High School Musical Cast - High School Musical soundtrackWalt Disney - January 2006 - 7 million unitshttp://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20080616005382/en/Walt-Disney-Records-High-School-Musical-Audio#.VHRNcKl6N_0 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium ArcadiumWarner - May 2006 - 7 million unitshttp://kroq.cbslocal.com/2010/11/01/meet-the-red-hot-chili-peppers-this-thursday-in-la/ Nelly Furtado - LooseGeffen - June 2006 - 12 million unitshttp://www.bet.com/music/photos/2014/11/timbaland-history-of-crafting-hits-with-female-artists.html#!112414-Music-Timbalands-History-of-Crafting-Hits-with-Female-Artists-Nelly-Furtado Beyonce - B'DayColumbia - September 2006 - 8 million unitshttp://www.musictimes.com/articles/1225/20130902/best-selling-labor-day-albums-beyonce-jay-z-more.htm Justin Timberlake - FutureSex / LoveSoundsJive - September 2006 - 10 million unitshttp://www.mtv.com/photos/the-evolution-of-justin-timberlake/1667344/6382862/photo/Amy Winehouse - Back To BlackIsland - October 2006 - 20 million unitshttp://usatoday30.usatoday.com/life/music/news/story/2012-06-18/amy-winehouse-book-father/55679192/1 Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn ThingRCA - April 2007 - 7 million unitshttp://www.starpulse.com/Music/Lavigne,_Avril/Albums/album/2217/10224939/ Linkin Park - Minutes to MidnightWarner - May 2007 - 8 million unitshttp://www.last.fm/music/Linkin+Park/Minutes+to+Midnight Rihanna - Good Girl Gone BadDef Jam - May 2007 - 7 million unitshttp://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/beyonc-lady-gaga-rihanna-albums-to-hit-shelves-november-23-1821889.html Adele - 19XL - January 2008 - 8 million unitshttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/10625314/Adele-pays-herself-more-than-7-million-following-success-of-album-21.htmlColdplay - Viva La VidaParlophone / Capitol - May 2008 - 10 million unitshttp://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10842560Lady Gaga - The Fame (including The Fame Monster as TF 2009 re-release)Interscope - August 2008 - 15 million unitshttp://sxsw.com/sites/default/files/attachments/Lady%20Gaga%20Keynote%20Release.pdfTaylor Swift - FearlessBig Machine - November 2008 - 9 million unitshttp://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/taylor-swift-tops-20-million-in-record-sales-118987324.htmlhttp://www.prweb.com/releases/2014/11/prweb12326956.htmBeyonce - I Am... Currently, the sole officially recognized source of global music sales, the IFPI, does not release sales info of albums beyond their release and/or peak years. Hence, most, if not all, of these numbers are not their current and entirely up-to-date worldwide figures. They're simply the latest highest WW numbers reported. If ever you find a more recent reported WW sales of any of the albums mentioned above or if you've found an album which wasn't included here, yet they were released in late 2004-present and have WW reported sales of at least 7 million, feel free to post them here alongside a link of a source.
