Gagaloo911 12,959
environmentalists always ignore tho that conpanies are transporting it by rail instead which causes more CO2 per barrel than transportig it by pipeline which is more efficient Also, even if u could stop oil sands, the demand is there so oil will just be produced somewhere else anyway So i fail to see how its soooooooooooo bad for the environment I read an article awhile back where the residents of the states here in the U.S. which the pipeline would go through, particularly North Dakota and other states near it, do not want such a pipeline to go through their land or states. Sorry, but it's up for them to decide in my eyes, they live there. It shouldn't be up to others who don't even live there just cause they want more oil. I live in Nebraska and there are families that have been farming the same plot of land (or at least the general area) for a century. I don't see why anyone should have the right to force them off their land to build this pipeline.
Economy 52,951
I read an article awhile back where the residents of the states here in the U.S. which the pipeline would go through, particularly North Dakota and other states near it, do not want such a pipeline to go through their land or states. It shouldn't be up to others who don't even live there just cause they want more oil. thats a valid argument. if the residents donmt want it. its one thing to consider But the whole its bad for the environment i think has very weak evidence behind it because studies that are more in depth that take into account secondary effects (such as backfires like more railway use, or more production in a Country with less regulation for environment) and not just the direct pipeline effects show its actually preferable to just build the dam thing Although i must say... nowadays its becoming a problem to build anything. Nobody wants anything in their backyard and every major project now is faced with legal challanges. its killing major economic investments and were paying for it at the very least they need to come up with ways to make definite answers faster instead of just letting decisions delay, and delay and delay. 6 almost 7 years for a yes or no is kind of rediculous.
