Goosey 3,017
What is the point in mentioning Hitler? Not similar situation or reason at all.The reason is irrelevant because no reason excuses such terrorism. We already know there is some reason, there is always a reason. lego 44,165
The reason is irrelevant because no reason excuses such terrorism. We already know there is some reason, there is always a reason. It is relevant because ignorant people try to point out that the main reason is in religious texts and with that logic they label majority of normal members of that religion as potential threat inciting more fear, xenophobia and hate crimes. Also it's not good to turn blind eye and ignore the war crimes of own governments. FreePalestine
X Dreams 94
I accidentally clicked on the link that tries to explain IS actions but didn't read it I'm not going to get monitored by the government am I? I didn't know what it was until I clicked it. I live in the US. The poster really should not post that sort of propaganda on this website.

EXCXSXE 0
What women rights/issues?? The comment I posted was related to the article I posted, which does talk about this topic. They don't monitor people for reading stuff on internet here where I live. You might see it as excuse, but I assure you it's not. I just want this to end and get to the root of the problem. Like why is this happening and how can we stop it? I don't think the solution is to arrest or monitor every single Muslim and spread fear that everyone who follows the religion is potential terrorist. There is a lot more to it than that. They don't monitor and arrest every Muslim? No one said anything about that, so can you please stop getting so defensive about Islam? I'm sorry that so many terrible people represent Islam in the Western media; I really am. Obviously Islam is not the entire issue. Unfortunately many Islamic ideologies conflict with Western life. Many of the middle eastern wars have stemmed from governments that don't believe in equal rights for all, and as long as this is true, I believe the Canadian government will (and should) be at war. I also don't think you need to be mentioning the Israel-Palestine stuff here either... This thread has nothing to do with that. It makes this issue even more "us vs them" if that makes sense. Goose suggested something similar to that. And I mentioned Israel to make a point, there was a reason. So you think waging war is the solution?? It's been 13 years already, what has improved? You really believe this is about fighting for equal rights?? Ok... FreePalestine
Grizzlybear2 457
This was honestly the scariest thing that has ever happened to me in my lifetime so far, being on a University Campus based in downtown Ottawa and having to go into a serious lockdown for hours was honestly so frightening. No, but do you think Iraqis and Afghanis are happier now? No more killing, raping, poverty? Same or worse. Anyway, this is getting nowhere. I'm done. craig 680
Appeal of radical Islam & do it yourself jihad: http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2014/10/radical-islam-canada-parliament-shooting/381873/ A lot of energy is wasted debating whether do-it-yourself jihadists should be called “terrorists.†The Obama administration notoriously insisted on describing the Ford Hood shooting of 2009 as an incident of “workplace violence,†not terrorism. The killer at Fort Hood, Major Nidal Malik Hassan, was perceived by colleagues as mentally troubled long before he opened fire, killing 13 and wounding 32 more. Judging by media reports, Zehaf-Bibeau likewise could be described, if one wished to eschew the T-word, as a troubled misfit with a long record of petty criminality. On the other hand, what kind of person would one expect jihadists to recruit from inside a Western society? In countries like Canada, Australia, Britain, and the United States, the call to Islamic holy war often appeals to more marginal people: the thwarted, the troubled, the angry. And yet even so, the Saint-Jean killerâ€â€Couture-Rouleauâ€â€reportedly had a clean police record and a reasonably stable personal life until his conversion to Islam. He owned a pressure-washing business and lived in a single family home with his father. If you are alienated, angry, and attracted to violence, radical Islam provides a powerful ideology of justification. If you are lonely and purposeless, it offers redemptive self-sacrifice (one report claims that Couture-Rouleau persuaded “four or five†friends to convert to Islam with him). Until roughly 1960, French-speaking Quebec ranked as one of the most Catholic societies on earth. In the late 1950s, more than 80 percent of French Quebeckers could be found at Mass on Sundays, according to one famous estimate. Then, abruptly, in the short span of years from 1960 to 1980, religion seemed almost to vanish from the province. It’s been aptly said that from the point of view of religious observance, “centuries, not decades†separated the Quebec of the 1980s from the Quebec of the 1950s. Yet the hunger for meaning is always a part of the human spirit. In a different time, Couture-Rouleau might have vanished into a monastery. In the 21st century, he found a different and deadlier path. The alleged would-be British Columbian bombers might likewise have gravitated to Maoism in the 1960s or Nazism in the 1930s. But those ideologies too have lost their hold on the modern mind, leaving radical Islam as the strongest competitor for the credence of those who seek self-fulfillment through mass destruction. Morphine Prince 109,683
Is ir bad that i cant see him as a Hero at all? Yes. Because he saved a lot of lives in there by confronting the gunman. The gunman could have potentially killed many people in there if he wasn't stopped.
