But when you criticise a religion you're not necessarily criticising its followers.

There is no way around racism. You can't justify that.

And Islam isn't a race. It's the second largest religion in the world and is expected to surpass Christianity. There are people from all over the globe who are Muslim. Christianity is made fun of and criticised all the time and no one says a peep. In fact, so many people criticised Christianity (or rather the Catholic Church) that it created a movement which we now call the Reformation.

Seems to me like Muslims and PC liberals alike can't handle the discussion when it comes to Islam. There is major reforming to be done in the religion, and I'm not going to shy away from that opinion.

I never said it was a race. Just that a certain region and its people come to mind as seen in stereotypes. And No one makes a peep over Christianity being mocked? Really? Lol and i mentioned the Protestant Reformation in a post to garnite, I'm aware.

what I meant is that people are allowed to make fun of christianity all the time and our society finds it acceptable. if I were a comedian, I could go on stage and mock jesus, the pope, WBC, etc, and it wouldn't be seen as a big deal. try mocking muhammad and see how far you get. I'm sure you've heard of that cartoonist whose life was threatened because he drew a cartoon. if that cartoon had been one of jesus it would never have been met with that hostility.

and yes, there are assholes out there who think muslims are dirty arabs or w/e, but that's not the kind of discussion sam harris and bill maher are trying to have. they're criticizing ideologies, and race is completely irrelevant in that kind of conversation

Oh yes, Theo something (sorry I can't remember), the one who made the controversial film "Submission". The hilt had a message for Ayaan Hirsi Ali, it was bone-chilling to say the least. But comedians have taken jabs at Islam, even Bill Maher himself. The South Park guys also come to mind, although I believe they covered the character in a bear costume on TV broadcast but may have included the uncensored scene in the DVD? I'll have to look into it. But I now see what you're saying.

Better Day

Me personally, (I didn't watch the videos) but over America, UK, France etc bombing Isis is just wrong, War is never the answer unless worse comes to the worst (WW2). I mean War is one of most unhumane things. This war is just causing Isis to retaliate.

It won't surpise me if they abduct other tourists etc and cut their heads off. I don't know the answer to stopping Isis but War just isn't the war... it will cause more harm than good.

ridiculous. The person who shouts louder seems to have the biggest effect rather than the person with the most articulate argument. affleck is such a douche

This whole discussion is fascinating because the West is obsessed with projecting their own "natural" (which is complete bs) values and ideals on communities that just developed differently. When you cannot take the origin and context of Islamic culture seriously, then you're bound to misunderstand the whole topic and will definitely not find a constructive solution.

I love you

Sam even says in the video "we're criticising ideas not people" but because ben can't shut his mouth for 5 seconds nobody heard it.

Exactly my thoughts ... I'm reading his book "Waking Up" right now.
