Using an ATRL member's discovery of the Hot 100 formula, we can now see how Applause would have fared in different situations. (Although I have a feeling that the formula has changed slightly since this time, this will still give us a fair estimation.)

Week of September 7, 2013 in Actuality
#1 - Blurred Lines
251,000 downloads divided by 10 = 25,100
6,100,000 streams divided by 750 = 8,133
221,300,000 AI divided by 10,000 = 22,130
TOTAL POINTS: 55,363

#2 - Roar
392,000 downloads divided by 10 = 39,200
4,700,000 streams divided by 750 = 6,267
76,000,000 AI divided by 10,000 = 7,600
TOTAL POINTS: 53,067

#3 - We Can't Stop
143,000 downloads divided by 10 = 14,300
6,400,000 streams divided by 750 = 8,533
55,000,000 AI divided by 10,000 = 5,500
TOTAL POINTS: 28,333

#4 - Applause
163,000 downloads divided by 10 = 16,300
6,000,000 streams divided by 750 = 8,000
37,000,000 AI divided by 10,000 = 3,700
TOTAL POINTS: 28,000

Week of September 7, 2013 Had the Song and Video Been Released on August 19
#1 - Blurred Lines
251,000 downloads divided by 10 = 25,100
6,100,000 streams divided by 750 = 8,133
221,300,000 AI divided by 10,000 = 22,130

76,000,000 AI divided by 10,000 = 7,600
TOTAL POINTS: 53,067

#3 - Applause
218,000 downloads divided by 10 = 21,800
6,000,000 streams divided by 750 = 8,000
31,000,000 AI divided by 10,000 = 3,100
TOTAL POINTS: 32,900

#4 - We Can't Stop
143,000 downloads divided by 10 = 14,300
6,400,000 streams divided by 750 = 8,533
55,000,000 AI divided by 10,000 = 5,500

This is assuming that it would have had at least 218,000 downloads - the same number it debuted with in actuality - as a concurrent release with the video, as was originally planned. So now we know for sure (well, through estimation) that it would have peaked at #3 had it not leaked. :noparty:

sigh...so many missed opportunities. I mean, we missed a #3 peak in the U.S, a possible #3 peak in the U.K since Applause was released on a Tuesday there, the equivalent of being released on a Wednesday in the U.S.....ugh

IKR. Applause could've been her 3rd single to get a #3 peak on the Hot 100 after Telephone and TEOG, the two second biggest hits from their respective parent albums. And for a 2013 single to peak at the same position as those two which occurred during Gaga's 'peak' would've come way better in dismissing those ridiculous 'flop' talk back then. But then again, to think its sales aren't that far from TEOG either despite their gap of release makes the difference of their peaks even more trivial.

Gaga should employ us regular chart monsters on GGD to manage the release of her singles. Our strategizing would surely be the best in the business. :gaycat:

Poor Applause being outpeaked by Black Widow and Break free when these songs sold less than it. :noparty:

All of the in-fighting that would be going on in her camp LOL

Each single release being sidetracked over fights about discounts, which country to promote in, what the video should look like, etc. :lmao:

Well Break Free peaked at #4. At least Black Widow sold 2.3M, pretty close to Applause.

Pure Adrenaline

Nobody dragged Applause bc it peaked at #4 instead of #3

except that everyone dragged it because it was #4 instead of #1 and that Roar outpicked it :awkney:

and then everyone dragged it when Eminem's lead single picked at #3 with almost the same 1st week sales of Applause :awkney:

Exactly bc it didn't hit #1. Since it didn't do that it might as well have peaked at #10, it wouldn't have mattered that much
