Critic Reviews

It depends on who's written the review and what kind of publication it's going to appear in. I've read a lot of 'genuine' reviews (both good and bad) that do review her music, rather than focusing on other things.

I know what you mean though, and despite the occasional need to outline a wider context for their readers, it's often the case that many (tabloid-style) reviewers neglect to mention too much about the music. It sucks but that's just how it is, it's far more interesting and attention-grabbing to talk about Gaga herself rather than just her music.

Well this is Gaga's first album that isn't pop, it feels like a side project and Gaga might consider it one herself so critics are bound to mention her career thus far and link an album's underperformance to a sort of break.

To be honest, C2C isn't amazing, most of the songs are quite forgettable but it's nice to have and most reviews are acknowledging this.

Kermit the frog

Why do u care so much about what someone has to say about a music album? :smh:

If u enjoy it, keep doing that. This forum is getting ridiculous with this reviews madness.

Thats not just Gaga. Its problem of most critical reviews nowadays. Im positively suprised Gaga hasnt received negative review so far considering her hateful tweets against critics.

I agree they should focus on the music not the artist

Even if it was Justin Bieber, for example, they're there to critique songs, not people

It depends on the publication. I've read really professional reviews for C2C and others not so much: Slant Magazine.

It's like they can't get past her pop star image to even give C2C a chance. Listen to the music and judge that, not ARTPOP sales or her wearing a meat dress.

Most reviews are positive, overwhelmingly so. Even BB's was positive.

There are only two that could be considered not positive, and one of those is so biased and ridiculous in so many ways, I can't take it as a legitimate review in any way.

Overall, the reviews have been quite good.

Forgettable songs being performed 100 years after they were written.

Gaga could never with her forgettable songs.

The covers are forgetable while the original songs aren't? Mess. I bet you haven't even listened to most of these songs.

It's definitely a problem. It seems like the only way one would get around it is to rarely show oneself in the public - though obviously if the critics buy into your image it works in your favor. Take Kanye for example, he could easily be regarded as a joke, but there's something so inherently egotistically masculine and unfiltered with the way he approaches his music and interviews. A lot of critics and fans like that about him. Now if Kanye was a woman it'd be a different story, and I feel like the white Pitchfork music crowd's tendency to embrace anything OTT regarding Kanye probably has a lot to do with it, but yeah. That obviously isn't going to work for Gaga because she's got more factors working against her, for one, she's a woman, two, she's a pop star, three, she famous for making dance music - and there's not many other genres that people love to hate on more than dance. It's considered cheesy, corny, and so on. Add that to the fact that she's not selling as much lately and it makes it easy for others to dismiss her and this project entirely and say she's just doing this because AP "flopped" and not because of any real interest. This attitude is apparent in that Slant review.
