Yes, it does matter. It matters to those who don't have the luxury of putting a full time job off for four years. It matters to those who are women trying to provide for children on their own because their husband left or is a dead beat dad. It matters to the high school graduate who has to find a full time job to help support his family because his mother died or his father lost his job in the economic downturn. In a perfect world, everyone would have four extra years after high school where their parents could provide at least a room, co-sign on a loan and the family didn't need any type of assistance. In a perfect world, husbands don't run off or die and leave their high school educated wife with the total care of a family.

The amount of money a student can borrow, without a co-signer is limited. It is more difficult to get a loan to cover tuition and books, if you don't have a parent who has a certain level of income or has been at a job for a certain amount of time. What if your parent has bad credit, due to recently losing a job? They can't co-sign either. It's simply not as feasible for some people as it is for others. It's nice that you have parents or a parent (or a co-signer) that makes getting a big loan an option, but not everyone has that option.

You can keep thinking that every 18 year old kid is in the same situation you are in, but that simply isn't the truth.

yes but its not those businesses job to give charity. They dont want to over-pay someone just because they are tight

Im sorry but low skill jobs should be payed accordingly.

If u cant afford colledge or university go into the trades or something. Its hard labor... But u can make a decent living without secular education

Not all jobs straight out if highschool pay minimum wage. Put some effort into learning and u can be an apprentice in something a bit better than mcdonalds

The cost of living in Mexico and the US is not very different. The minimum wage in the US is not bad, it is just the minimum.

Yes it is. When people have to work 2-3 jobs to get by then the minimum wage is not great.

Ya know what? Life is ****, for many many people. So don't try to insinuate my life is nothing but berries and cream when you don't know. You don't know how hard I worked to bring myself up to what I am today.

I don't feel bad that I fought hard through my own problems and didn't stop until I was satisfied with my life. It's not my problem others don't want to do that for themselves.

If your life has major issues, fix them yourself. Stop putting off things on other members of society such as your employer cause you're in a rough patch. I've known people who've brought themselves up from the most dangerous places on the South Side of Chicago. A place where there is endless violence and gang-activities. It's not a normal night on the south side without someone getting shot. Drug trade is all over the place and most families are on welfare. It is notorious for being one of the most terrible places to grow up. Don't give me that **** that $15 an hours going to change anything. They did it for themselves, with what they earned. If they can make it so can MANY others. They worked full time jobs when they were in highschool making $9 an hour, and somehow they made it.

Also, what happens with the people that do work at McDonalds who don't have a bad life? Are they going to earn as much as the workers with problems too? Why do you think they are justified in getting $15 an hour then, since you think it's justified for people who are struggling?

Never said your life was berries and cream. Just that some people may not have had the opportunities that you have. How did you borrow 25K a year? Where did you find loans like that without a co-signer? How did you live on $9 an hour?

What are you today? A college student with 100K of loans. What happens if you can't find a job? What happens if your employer has to downsize? What happens to your loans then?

do people think fast food jobs are easy? because honestly I've had three food service jobs and they were the hardest most annoying jobs I've ever had...and the lowest paying. People should just not expect a hot prepared meal for cheap. People get upset when a meal costs more than $10 at any fast/casual dining place. ...and expect it in less than ten minutes. No. Only if the *entire team* of people preparing your food are working poor on food stamps and other government assistance. Like I was. Like my co-workers.

Even if I got *two promotions* it would only be $10/hr. part time. That was supposed to be good.

so what do u suggest? We start over-paying everyone for low skills jobs?

I guess i should quit my heavy steel job paying $14/h and ill stop learning as an apprentice...

Why should i work hard if working at mcdonalds can pay my bills?

i understand its not easy. Its fast pace and tiring...

But ts also low skill. Anyone without education can do that.

I do think minimum wage is the US is too low tho. Here in Canada its between $10/h and $11/h depending on the Province. I think $7/h or $8/h is too low even for mcdonalds

But dont anybody give me that $15/h crap. I make $14/h working with heavy steel and i work with a lot of math and requires skills. Yes im still learning but already my skills and work ecceed that one someone working at mcdonalds

Aint no way someone at mcdonalds should make more than me :MANiCURE:

.... people, you make it seem so eassy. Like, I am a teacher, I have been studying during years, paying college and working very hard to get my job. I get paid let's say 15$.

I mean, If a person working at McDonalds gets the same amount of money as I do, why would I waste years of my life studying when I can get the same just leaving school at 16??

That's one point.

Next point, if you can't afford kids, you don't have kids. That excuse nowadays just makes you seem irresponsible and ignorant.

Another one: as I was saying, If a Mcdonalds worker gets 15$ I want more because I have done a lot more of effort and my job is more important (not saying that their work isn't, but...). So all the workers get payed more money... the prices will increase, and the McDonalds worker would be in the same situation.

Try to apply to another job if you don't like the one you have.

These people are not dying on the streets, don't overreact. They can't afford a lot of things? Yeah, but if you want to you have to make a lot of effort, NOTHING has been given to ANYONE for free.

Here is a story of two McDonald's employees couple.

Well, if you work at McDonald's you CAN NOT afford to have a baby which cost over $108K to raise to adulthood (assuming they spend $6K/year). Use birth control and wear a condom because you can't afford something that cost over $108K! It's smarter financially if the couple decide to go buy a brand new $50K Mercedes-Benz than to have that baby.

Thats kind of their fault for having a child when they can't afford it.

Why pay McDonalds employees $15 an hour?! :wtf:

so they can afford to live...

Thats kind of their fault for having a child when they can't afford it

so because they don't have a great job they shouldn't be able to have a family?

maybe you should work hard to be a teacher because you want to be a teacher...not because you get paid more...

also..$15 might be too much depending where you live...but minimum wage is way too low in the US for the cost of living.

If people don't want people on welfare, then they need to realize that we can't pay people $7.25 an hour and think that will work.

basically, this is what i'm trying to say:

I am a server at a restaurant and make $2.13 an hour, which eventually leads to nothing because of taxes, lol. My entirely livelihood depends on tips that people leave me. Life isn't fair and it doesn't owe you anything. I am right now taking out loans and living with my parents at 22 so I can go to school to better my life. If you're unhappy with what you're being paid, strive for better. Whether that means, going up in the company e.g becoming a shift leader/manager or going back to school and taking a few classes every semester. It may take you a long time but at least you are trying.

Yes. Why force a child to live in poverty because you couldn't use a condom.
