Economy 52,861
http://www.worldklems.net/conferences/worldklems2014/worldklems2014_Fukao.pdf After over 20 years of a stubborn economy that refused to grow, Japans new Government came up with a very aggressive plan that was suppostu end 20 years of deflation and virtually stalled growth This aggressive plan they named "abenomics" included Corporate tax cuts, deregulation, increased spending for stimulus and extra-ordinary monetary stimulus... Interest rates have been at 0% for over a decade, The Government started printing $75 Billion a month in QE, Corporate taxes have been cut, spending increased... the result so far? FAILURE! Debt levels have soared to over 240% of GDP (the very highest in the world) the economy isnt growing, and its taking all the stimulus in the world to hold economy together. With a ever aging population, shrinking workforce, rising healthcare costs and pension costs, and Japanese reluctance to accept more immigrants, situation will likely get worse. Whenever I worry about US debt I think of Japan and feel better.Japans weak economy and old conservative invesors actually makes Japan be able to manage more debt cause of low rates. The US could never manage a debt 240% of its GDP Still tho, the US isnt that bad compared to some Countries. Especially when u take into account US States and Munincipalities are not as indebted as lower levels of Government from many Countries
Dylanica 15
North Korea is done since the beginning, I mean look how much money Kim wasted on the Water-Park, what a BIG FAIL. But back to the subject, I didn't know JP was in trouble.
Economy 52,861
Hopefully Japan will be taken as an example of how not to do it tbh. a shrinking population and shrinking workforce naturally causes falling demand, deflation, and companies shutting down... But instead of fighting their root cause issue they are using stimulus spending and ultra low rates and money printing to try to fix the issues Its not gonna work. 25 years of failed attempts to revive the economy should be enough proof that their policies arent gonna work North Korea is done since the beginning, I mean look how much money Kim wasted on the Water-Park, what a BIG FAIL. But back to the subject, I didn't know JP was in trouble. Japan been in trouble since before most ppl on GGD were born. Its old news that isnt even talked about anymore Who knows when they will reach their breaking point tho. With their super low interest rates, they may be able to reach a debt of 350% of GDP or even higher before they collapse Their current borrowing costs are about 0.5% even lower than Germanys :MANiCURE:
