I get why fans love to boast about the sales of their "fave," but I hope everyone realizes that album sales are VERY quickly becoming obsolete. Like in a year or two I can see albums by the the biggest artists (maybe even Gaga included) debuting at #1 with less than 100k. Actually, now that I think about it, a few big-name artists this year already have... :spin:

Gaga was so right in the SXSW interview where she said that record companies don't have nearly as much money as they used to...they're lucky if people even legally stream music, but the money pulled in from streaming is so negligible. We're gonna either laugh or cry when we look back on the days we made fun of artists for selling just under 300k. (We'll probably cry cause there'll be no money left for high-budget videos or performances.)

*cackles internally* Not because I have anything against her, but she was supposed to be the new it- thing right? :emma:

Same for me :laughga:

Yeah, she has had this amazing promo and was shoved down our throats all year long as the second coming of Jesus. The almost 5 month gap between Problem and the album did not help at all. Guess this further confirms that good single sales don't equate to good album sales!

who will love me when the night is over

Problem and Break Free are the only listenable songs from the whole album.

Average-good sales for 2014. And illegal downloading isn't to blame (piracy is actually declining), but streaming.

Extremely surprising considering her singles chart positions and promo tour with the VMA's the night before, sad because it's actually a strong album IMO.

Whispering

Problem, Break Free and Bang Bang blow The Way out of the water, as far as promo and hype. Those three songs, and all the attention around Ariana,  have turned her into one of today's biggest pop girls. Due to all the promo, hype and the fact that three songs are getting major airplay on multiple formats at the current time, the minimal growth over "Yours Truly" is disappointing.

I really thought it was going to be way more!

I don't think people on here realize how little appeal Ariana has outside of internet teen girls.

and gay boys? ;)

Teen girls buy tons of Taylor Swift and 1D albums, though.
