migamiga 12,102
I'm going to preface my opinion on this album cover by stating the postive thoughts I have about this project so that I don't get accused of being an overly negative, whiney, asshole. I'm thrilled that Gaga is finally releasing a jazz record. I'm very happy she is collaborating with Tony. I think the title of the record is adroable. The song choices so far have been great. From what we have heard her vocals sound divine. That being said... This is an awful album cover. For most consumers it wont matter, but for those of us who appreciate graphic design this album cover is an abomination. The photoshop on their faces is obviously excessive, her affinity for fake looking digital newspaper is going a little to far, the typeface on the Delux Edition (aka the Make More Money Edition) looks fan made, but worst of all it's boring. It's truly an uninspired album cover. Why not take a risk and use the Annie Leibovitz nude shot of them together as the cover? But it will hurt sales, Walmart wont sell it, blah, blah, blah. Sex sells and creating bold art is more important then offending the sensabilties of Betty and Joe Beercan. Or perhaps just a sketch of Gaga by Tony as the cover? A true collaboration. Or even one of Tony's paintings.... I don't undersand why such an innovative performance artist constantly packages her music in such a mundane way. You would think if you are releasing an album of standers you would want to bring something new to the way you are presenting it. But even if you are interested in producing album art that is not boundry pushing, why not do it in an elegant and classic way? Why photoshop Tony Bennet until he looks like an elderly lesbian clinging onto his virgin sacrafice? Gaga is in desperate need of a good team of graphic artists. I was secretly hoping for this I'm starting to think Gaga likes pissing us off with her album cover choices. TF and TFM were flaw free though
Schwerk 7,261
You guys are a bunch of whinny a$$ b*tches. Like over-dramatic much? Nothing pleases you, you complain about literally EVERYTHING! God I can't stand this generation. You just expect things handed to you and then complain about it, or complain when you don't get it. Go find some lives I don't mind it. Not my fave, but it's not nearly as terrible as yall are making it out to be I'm sorry but your generalizing comment is the most over-dramatic so far. Many things stated here are plain facts: - Yes the cover is really photoshopped. It has a colorfilter and the picture is digitally sharpened. So much so it makes the marks and lines of Tony's older skin stand out. - Gaga's eyes are very intense and because of the bright light and the effects it washes out her face. The lack of depth makes her look a bit plastic and her eyes a bit dead. - the color filter is many times associated with a sepia filter anybody (over)uses to make plain pics look retro and cool. Therefor it might seem cheap to people. - Tony has no glasses on. We are so used to him with glasses, it might look strange to many. Reminds me how strange my grandma looked to me when she took her glasses off. These things can make you love or hate it. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

And no, at least I'm not plotting anything, being a graphic designer too (you are, isn't it?) i completely understand you and agree with you and your choices, the Annie Leibovitz would have been perfect or at least a drawing made by Tony, even that promo picture by Steven Klein could have served the purpose ... What were they thinking ?
_Lam 597
I'm seriously tired of waiting for jaw-dropping visuals. It's been really long now and it's now or never. I mean, it's not even hard to ask. I seriously could have done this cover photoshop... not kidding. At least use the damn Klein promo photo. VISION 52
Not sure.. I do photography and use Photoshop a lot, never ever have I been a fan of HDR effect, more so on people Gaga looks scared, Tony looks creepy
SKANK 14,288
Totally agree. So far, it's the only album cover from Gaga that I hate. To be honest I don't think Gaga has ever created an album cover that is really praise worthy. The Fame Monster covers are beautiful and the Born This Way standered edition cover is unforgettable, but she doesn't stray to far from the normal pop star album cover formula. It's something I wish she would put a little more effort into. All she has to do is go on tumblr, reddit, or deviantart and she will find a thousand 17 year old kids from Nebraska or some Bumfuq town who have more sophisitcated eyes then whoever she is currently using. I'm still waiting for a Grace Jones moment. Edited August 18, 2014 by SKANK
Jenniferella 2,774
I love the pic, I don't see the problem with the covers "I have been writing LG5 since I was 13"
LStephens11 15
It looks photoshopped and she looks like she's in shock. Was expecting something a lot better than this. Oh well, can't wait for the album SEPTEMBER

Uhh no, what I put in bold are not facts at all but mere opinions. People will see different things in the picture, and have different opinions about the way Gaga and Bennett look. I for one disagree with that she looks "dead" or that they even look plastic. That is all subject, up for debate, not a fact. The point I was making was how people have been commenting has NOT been by stating facts, but by whinning and complaining about how they don't like it and blowing it way out of proportion. Furthermore, well over more than half the comments in this thread were of that type, so no, mine was not over-dramatic and I was merely stating a matter of fact about the comments in here. Your argument is invalid
Slojo 51
I love the pic, I don't see the problem with the covers There is nothing wrong with it really. Unfortunately this site is full of people that think they know better than Steven Klein, Tony Bennett and Gaga plus all their backroom staff combined and spend their time complaining, generating negativity and having meltdowns :) If you go to Tony Bennetts Facebook page, which in the main is inhabited by fairly normal people, the reaction to the album and covers is mostly positive
Disregard 50
I'm used to Gaga pictures making her look unnatural, so that's not a shock. I'm more taken aback by the way Tony looks. Not to be morbid, but he looks freshly-embalmed and they just haven't sewed his eyes and lips shut for the viewing yet. It's very off-putting. VforVendetta 2,024
I think it's ok. I'd prefer someting more Gaga like TLIAT one.
LaLuna 12,732
Not liking the cover has nothing to do with 'never being satisfied' This forum sometimes IKR, I mean, it's true that this fanbase does tend to complain a lot, but are we not allowed to express our opinion on an album cover? It has nothing to do with Gaga, it's just that the people who worked on the cover went a little overboard with the photoshop, that's all. It's nothing to have a meltdown over. hausofchad 5
I really like the pics...but the quality seems off. I think it'll look much better on the actual CD case *fingers crossed*

Furthermore, well over more than half the comments in this thread were of that type, so no, mine was not over-dramatic and I was merely stating a matter of fact about the comments in here. Your argument is invalid In bold is exactly what I tried to say. Certain facts about this picture trigger feelings and the ones I stated and you but in bold are simply examples of such feelings. But I see my argument is invalid? Are you kidding me? Rude. Vissuals trigger emotions. There are facts to this. Just like the color red is alarming and green is calming, a picture of a face that has lost defintion, can make a person look dolllike/plastic/fake. Especially with the eyes, if the sphere shape is gone and they appear flat, which looks very piercing, it evokes different emotions, good or bad. And considering how well everyone on here knows Gaga and her face, alterations to that face, wether it's achieved by lighting, make-up or photoshop, can trigger a reaction, good or bad. Same goes for Tony's face. People are used to seeing him one way, it might be strange to see him another way. As for the sepia. A color filter is used, that is a fact. And a REASON people can dislike it, is because of what I said above. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch
