Bear 7,515
I understand why the parents did what they did, not everyone can cope with a child with special needs (and they did make this clear in advance). It is better to be with the surrogate mother who loves him for who he is than than the parents who don't. This will turn out to be the better situation for everyone. I think it is awful that they are allowed to split the twins up though :( Off topic: Excuse my ignorance but is gammy a real name or is it just to protect his identity? The definition of the word Gammy is 'unable to function normally' which I think is a pretty poor choice of a name.

Popneon 459
lol are you all honestly surprised with this? +90% of all pregnancies diagnosed with down syndrome in the US and Europe are terminated also, don't f*cking start calling these people monsters and what not, down syndrome is not something to be taken lightly, it is a serious and untreatable disease which most parents simply don't have time or the financial power to support. even if you have all the money in this world, living with down syndrome is not a life at all and you're not "giving" that baby the freedom of life in any way by choosing not to abort it. Adakam 2
after reading everything... just one question, is it really legal to ask a surrogate mother to abort? is there some sort of contract that implies that the real parents can ask or the abortion if things go wrong? because the surrogate mother who is doing this or a living, would be putting herself at risk, and probably ruin the chance for her to do it again, so what do laws say about this? and how is the abortion request made? did they just call her or did they have a meeting where the place that did the insemination and the deal were involved? anyway, what I do find really sad about them is that they werent capable of having a baby, and when they got the chance just because it didnt come out right, they abandon him? this isnt a one night stand pregnancy, it something that supposedly they planned or a while and wanted to do together, i wouldnt call them disgusting, just cowards also if they could afford the surrogacy, they could afford giving the child a life.... Bitter 3,640
From the beginning i keep saying that only a SICK and disgusting person would do such a terrible thing. And oh.. check this out: In disturbing news, it’s been revealed the man believed to be Gammy’s Australian biological father previously abused at least three young girls. The Daily Mail reports that the West Australian man was jailed in the late 1990s for s-xually molesting two girls under 10. He was sentenced to three years in prison  and, while serving that sentenced, he was charged with six further counts of indecently dealing with a child under the age of 13. He was also convicted and sentenced for those crimes, the Daily Mail reports. So the father is a a convicted paedophile. Keep justifying him
Economy 52,839
There also different degrees with downsyndrome I know this 24 year old girl with downsyndrome and she can do a lot. She helps her mom clean the house, she has some speech and has a simple part-time job She can also be left alone at home for several hours at a time. The only thing her mom doesnt want her doing is kitchen stuff like cooking Essentially some people are just really slow. But then there are those with Downsyndrome that are really severe and really hard to take care of :(

It is her body after all But most likely, if they request an abortion for a situation like this and she refuses, they may no longer be legaly required to maintain the contract of keeping the baby though im sure they still have to pay her Im not sure but this is just what makes sense! Can you verify that? Do you have down syndrome? I have several close family friends with it and they would certainly tell you otherwise. That's just twisted. It's not different than someone telling me living life as a gay man is no life at all. Also, if you can't afford to be prepared for the worst with a child, maybe you should reconsider having one in the first place. Your view is just...myopic. Nicole 1,809
For those interested in this story, the Australian couple is being interviewed on 60 Minutes. I must say I am appalled at the Australian media for giving this couple a chance to speak their side. His words were complete lies, he stuttered, repeated sentences while in search for another lie to tell. Complete crocodile tears (not sure if that term is used internationally but basically it's fake crying) - He claims he requested a termination and wanted his money back (sounds like he's treating Gammy as a warranty claim!). He didn't seem to get the fact that people with Down syndrome can be healthy, intelligent and live normal, productive lives. - Claims the surrogate wanted to keep the boy and they left Thailand to save the baby girl yet never attempted to extend their visa and are still yet to go to any Australian embassies to resolve this issue - He addresses the s-x offences (he didn't think of the fact that he had his own urges while he had his own children) apparently he feels remorse and the urges have stopped. "Sex offenders are not worthy of breathing, I know that" "I'm a good person now because I did this bad thing a long time ago" the interviewer didn't have a bar of it though. - He referred to baby Gammy as "the boy" as if he didn't have a name I'll try and find a YouTube link, but the whole interview is just atrocious. You can just see straight through their words. This interview is literally the reason I hate Australian media. Always try and sympathise with the Aussie no matter what immoral or illegal act they committed.
