I just didn't like that I was getting categorized as musically ignorant when I'm not at all. There's just something about that vocal slide that is throwing me off. I still haven't listened to the song with very good headphones yet, so maybe I'm hearing things wrong, but I noticed it right away. Nevertheless, I absolutely respect your opinion and we'll just agree to disagree. Okie dokie. I'm talking about the general public, not the specific ppl who are extremely musically informed. I come from a strong musical theatre background (part of the reason why Gaga's lower harmonies in Anything Goes disappointed me) and I've been classically trained in voice. Nevertheless, I hear what everyone is talking about. I heard it the first time I listened to the song. Yes, I know about dissonance and resolution in jazz. I welcome that kind of musicality and enjoy the embellishment. My issue is that the slide sounds unnatural. It sounds like pitch correction rather than untouched vocals. There's a metallic tone in the pitch change that is causing me to raise my eyebrows. I wouldn't call that slide dissonance... Whatever. I guess we just can't hear what some of you are hearing. The slide isn't dissonant. That particular comment was in reference to other posters who were talking about intentionally flat notes in jazz. I mean, this one note isn't a big deal. It just stood out to me because of how natural her voice sounds in the rest of the song. Towards the end of the slide, it just sounds like they maybe pitch corrected up a half step. But now that I'm thinking, everyone, including me, may be jumping the gun a bit. She might have a natural break in her voice right there. Or she may be switching registers. The glissando is just not fluid to my ear. There's a distinct shift in it, like there's a missing note. If you can't hear it, you can't hear it I guess.
