Whispering 18,865
Tagging on Blacklistedds comment, a lot of people for whatever reason are embarrased to be Gaga fans and invariably are the ones calling for her to go back to TFM era everything because they felt better about her and themselves then. I think many of these are embarrassed simply for the simple reason she's not on top anymore. Some are embarrassed that she's embarked on a different direction or has gotten "pretentious" in their eyes. Frankly many of those people need to go find some other pop star to Stan for until Gaga does something they like again. Wallowing in the past and being angry about the present does neither themselves or this fanbase any favors. This is a big part of the hyper-critical mentality, imo. Many of these fans have their own self-worth tied up in how well Gaga performs in the Pop world. They look to Gaga's success to make them feel better about themselves, so when she isn't doing as well...neither are they. Also, for whatever reason, the drama queen type and very young (thus highly short-sighted and reactionary) seem to congregate at GGD. All of these elements combined make for a hyper-critical, over-dramatic group feeding off of each other.
Willy Wonka 4
I think there's extremes on both ends.
Echo 327
I hate this. You pay to go and watch her show... not to own her. You're not even worth a decent response, this is so stupid.
Kayla 7,595
Gaga fans are the new Britney fans tbh. It hasn't gotten old Exhale-level bad yet, but the base is giving them a run for their money. Ugh. I remember a few months back I had a really great conversation with a fan on another forum about the s-xual symbolism in Venus, G.U.Y. and Sexxx Dreams and it was so refreshing. The discussion of flops and "recapturing the GP" is just so stale, yet that seems to be all anyone wants to talk about here. That's totally what discussing Gaga has become! It's now less about the little meanings of her songs and videos and more about what parts of her videos the GP will like.
Ronk 14,827
more about what parts of her videos the GP will like. I don't think the people who want Gaga to consider what the GP will like realize the consequences of that. Artists create their best work when they create from the heart and soul of their creative mind. When they steadfastly focus on producing to their own vision, art is advanced and great things come of it. Gaga has artistic greatness within her and should be allowed to produce the very best she can muster. We shouldn't alter that by asking her to create to the likes of others instead of herself. I agree. And that's what's unfortunate about the conversations in the fanbase now. Back when she was on top, people talked about what they liked about her work. Now that she's not dominating like she used to the fans talk about what she needs to do to get back on top again and let discussions about her actual art and music take a backseat. I just want Gaga to do what she wants and I want the fans to respect that. Hearing Gaga's music on the radio as much as Katy's would be awesome, and seeing her nominated for awards like Beyonce is would make my day, but Gaga is STILL an important figure, she's STILL successful, and despite ARTPOP not dominating the Pop world like we all wanted it to, it's still a fantastic album that did very well. There are so many musicians who would kill to have the recognition Gaga has, even at this point in her career, but because she's not literally #1 sitting atop a throne like she was during TFM-ish days, people think she's flopping. Ugggghhhh it's frustrating. I wanna just enjoy the music.

They want Gaga to be happy and they believe commercial validation of her work is what will make her happy. They have good intentions. But Gaga is such a happy person right now. She is getting to do what she loves best; thrilling thousands of fans in her concerts. She was born for the stage, and her joy really shows when you see her in concert. She has a terrific boyfriend, a dog she loves, and friends and family. She's on top of the world right now. And she's creating music and themes to her own vision, an unapologetic, unrestrained artist, and that makes her very happy. I live outside the space time continuum.
