All major celebrities that are openly gay/straight allies serve as a voice for the LGBT community, especially for the youth, as well as encouraging visibility. Ellen and her story serve as a beacon of hope for LGBT kids, as well as for young girls showing them that you can be whatever you want to be and be wildly successful while still staying true to yourself. On top of that, she is a very vocal supporter and advocate for LGBT rights and social equality.

Being one of the most famous gay people IN THE WORLD, it is a little ignorant to say that Ellen doesn't do anything for the community.  :ohwell:

My point... was that I think a lot of gays perceived Gaga as a try hard for gay approval thus the gays not liking her.  Ellen doesn't have to say anything in order for her to gain acceptance and approval because people already like her.  Her comeback after the late 90s was amazing and proves a lot to how life does get better for LGBTQ.  It was an implicit move creating an implicit wave of acceptance. However, young LGBTQ kids most likely don't even know what she had to go through in the 90s.  They only know her for scaring Taylor Swift.  She hardly is speaking at gay events and such.  Which puts her in a difference place than Gaga.

Sorry for my ignorance.   :ohwell:

The problem is, when she came out with 'Born This Way' she almost became exclusively gay. And not just for the gay community as a whole, but specifically for gay teenagers and bullying victims who were born between 1993 and 1998. And prior to that EVERYONE adored her. She was a revolutionary. I remember all the hottest girls in my grade at school (who were affectionately nicknamed 'The Plastics' because of Mean Girls) had Gaga songs as their profile songs on MySpace - Just Dance, Just Dance HCCR remix, Just Dance Kardinal Offishall remix, Poker Face, Poker Face Jody Den Broeder Remix, LoveGame. I was the gay guy and yet I was discovering all these Lady Gaga songs through all the hottest girls at my school. AND she was a style icon to them. They all started wearing sequins, brightly-coloured, shoulder-patted blazers and square-shaped sunglasses.

She lost ALL of that during 'Born This Way' because she started focusing on bullying victims and self-proclaimed "losers." It was that whole misfit-mentality that seemed to be big during 2010 with the emergence of 'Glee.' Even as a bullying victim of homophobia myself, I found myself looking at her at times and thinking: "I'm not a victim, I grow from it and I learn."

Because I was two years out of high school and I didn't let the fact that I was a bullying victim define me anymore. I started going to the gym, put on a lot of muscle, started going out clubbing and met heaps of new people who didn't know what I was like in high school. I told them I was gay as soon as I met them, and they embraced it and loved it. It was so much easier than coming out to people who had known me in school. I wasn't a victim anymore. And I didn't wear that everywhere I went. It was like I allowed myself to become a new person. But Gaga almost wears that victim mentality everywhere she goes. And the funny thing is, I don't think she would have it any other way. She loves the connection she has with her fans. And she loves the market niche she has, of young, gay teenagers and young, female teenagers who feel they're unattractive. But I think that by focussing on her fans so much, she's isolated the masses, and lost a lot of straights, who, at the end of the day, are a much larger/more critical market than we are. It's almost like "monsters" or "Lady Gaga fans" have become separated from the rest of society. You're either a full-on, die-hard, obsessed, "she's-the-reason-I'm-still-alive" sort of fan or you're not really a fan at all. There doesn't seem to be an in-between market of "casual fans" in the GP anymore, who simply enjoy her music, but their love for her isn't their primary identifier.

^This is why. Gaga's stans tend to be much more flamboyant but most gays aren't like that and don't want to associate with that image or be looked upon as victims.

this is a clear lie, they totally did this survey on a bunch of Old Madonna Stans.

Because clearly I went to ARtRAVE and there were TONS of Gay men young and old who dawned over her.

Tons of lipstick and butch lesbians who went cray for her.

So this magazine can suck a disco stick.!

Okay, so Ellen didn't make an album called Born This Way and promoted it internationally. But that doesn't mean she doesn't preach love and acceptance frequently, especially on her show and especially geared specifically towards LGBT people.

You can be an advocate for LGBT causes and have other passions too, you know.

She might be influential in the USA but I really doubt she's relevant to the rest of the world.

Name 10 other out celebrities with a bigger impact/image/celebrity than Ellen.

I doubt you can, because there aren't that many. This makes Ellen one of the (if not THE) biggest gay celebrities out there, and with that one of the most visible LGBT people on earth. Visibility is extremely important.

When did I ever say Ellen wasn't those things?  Don't put words into my mouth.  That's a terrible way to make your point.  This petty little argument started just because I said that Gaga's actions were more explicit than Ellen's.  Nothing more.

Same, intentional or not, it is segregation. Same goes for "the whites", "the blacks", "the hispanics", etc. :smh:
