[JULY 2014] Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 crashes in Ukraine

This truly does change everything. It now shifts the issue from airline security to airline defense... if they can shoot down aircrafts from the ground, it takes out the whole process of getting onto the planes. If these separtists obtained these weapons (giving the Russian Federation the benefit of the doubt), who's to say al-Qaeda can't obtain similar weapons and enter the United States and sit in Oklahoma City and shoot down anything that flies over?

Rest in peace to all who perished. I can't believe this is still happening in 2014. People are ****ed up.

There's so much security in the US, it's barely possible. When me and my family came to the US we were asked whether we had been in a farm in the past few days, whether we had seen cows, etc :rip: you can't simply smuggle a weapon to the US. I doubt people from countries like Afghanistan and Iraq are even allowed in the US without being checked 10 times, perhaps they'll even be spied on.

More scary is that there are so many flights which go through Russia and Ukraine... will they all have to avoid these places now?

OK. Russia is related to it and supported the separatists with weapons. They are to blame a big part on the Ukrainian situation.

There are absolutely no excuses for it, and it shouldn't happen.

I just want to state this: USA basically destroyed the whole country of Iraq (Serbia, Vietnam, 2 Japan atomic bombs, etc.), yet no one introduced any sanctions. This just shows that a big one is feared and respected. No one would dare to say anything about USA, just saying :wtf:

None of these countries had the rights to do what they did, but let's not act like USA is an angel either, who did much more mess worldwide than USSR/Russia :wtf:

You can't really compare these cases (especially WW2), but you have a point.

And the US never even freaking apologized

'George H. W. Bush, the vice president of the United States at the time commented on the incident during a presidential campaign function (2 Aug 1988): "I will never apologize for the United States  I don't care what the facts are... I'm not an apologize-for-America kind of guy."'

A GRANDFATHER and his three grandchildren are among seven West Australians killed in the MH17 disaster, where 298 people have lost their lives.

Mo (12), Evie (10) and Otis Maslin (8) were on their way back to Perth with their grandfather, local businessman Nick Norris, after a family holiday in Amsterdam when the aircraft was shot down by Russian separatists over the eastern part of the Ukraine last night.

Rin Norris and Anthony Maslin were not on board the plane with their children, who were flying back with their grandfather to be back in time for the next school term.

I'm not sure if this has been posted somewhere before, but this is pretty upsetting.

About 100 people traveling to a global AIDS conference in Australia were on board the Malaysia Airlines flight that crashed and killed 298 people in eastern Ukraine, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

The researchers, health workers and activists were on their way to the International AIDS Conference in Melbourne. Among the victims planning to attend was Dutch national Joep Lange, a top AIDS researcher and former International AIDS Society president. Briton Glenn Thomas, a spokesperson for the World Health Organization and a former BBC journalist, was also on flight MH17.

The International AIDS Society expressed sadness over the news that its colleagues were on the Malaysian jetliner.

“At this incredibly sad and sensitive time the IAS stands with our international family and sends condolences to the loved ones of those who have been lost to this tragedy,†the group said in a statement.

While the medical field mourns the lives of those killed, experts like Associate Professor Brian Owler, federal president of the Australian Medical Association, also fear that breakthroughs in HIV/AIDS research will now be stalled.

“The amount of knowledge that these people who died on the plane were carrying with them and the experiences they had developed will have a devastating impact on HIV research,†Owler told TIME.

“The amount of time it takes to get to a stage where you can come up with those ideas cannot be replaced in a short amount of time. So it does set back work for a cure and strategic prevention of HIV/AIDS very significantly,†he said.

Ugh this makes me so mad. I mean all those people had to die and then it sets back research. Why does everything suck??
