Scratch that, it wasn't as big as Applause. It didn't have the sales, radio, longevity or impact Applause had.

*looks up stats*

Applause: 2,400,000

DIL: 1,600,000

oh :flop:

Applause: top 10 for 14 weeks

DIL: top 10 for 8 weeks

okay :laughga:

Applause: 130m peak AI

DIL: 99m peak AI

But Applause was a flop and DIL was Beyonce's highly successful comeback single. :awesome:

No disrespect towards Bey, but dat double standard is real.

The media POUNCED on Applause like it was fresh meat.

When critics were attacking ARTPOP, we used to say she has 13 MTV Video Music Awards, she has 5 Grammy Awards,

but VMA snubbed her, we got one less shield to defend.

And you think ARTPOP is going to get nominations from Grammys? I hope so because if she gets snubbed again at the Grammys,

we'll lose another shield to defend her career.

In years, if she gets snubbed every year,

Katy will have 10 Grammys and Gaga's still pausing at 5. Just because we are good in progress doesn't mean people can't catch us up.

Katy will NEVER get 10 grammies. that's a given.

That J

Applause the song and video slays hard and I don't need MTV of all crap holes to confirm it for me. It also slays HARD live. In Dallas, that song shook the building! Well...we WERE jumping and losing all control of our bodies and minds lol.

Applause is one of the best music videos from 2013-2014 and it's not there only because people don't really remember the song anymore. It hasn't been "relevant" for the past 6 months, unlike Wrecking Ball and the overrated Fancy. I guess they're going for what's popular right now and it has been like that for years now.

At least they nominated Chandelier, but I think that it's not always about the popstars, so I'm glad Britney and Katy Perry are not there. Rihanna and Shakira's duet could've also been on the list but I'm surprised they didn't include it, I bet it'd be there if the song had been more successful,

Well to be fair to the media, Beyonce just smashed with her non-promoted, singleless album. So I don't think it was a double standard.

Yeah, but ARTPOP hadn't even been released yet when they hounded Applause. But regardless, a song's performance should not be dragged down just because the album flopped, or elevated just because the album smashed. A song is a song and should be judged based on itself alone. Not the album. Not their opinion about the artist. The song. There was no reason for them to label Applause as a failure, but they did.

Oh wait, the Roar comparisons.

The industry is so ****ed up lol

All of Beyonce's fans bought the album so the song suffered in sales. The media understood that.

That being said, their bias against Gaga is disgusting. I don't even support the media ****s anymore. And I'm not watching the VMAs, they've snubbed two of my favs.

I honestly don't think the media thinks that deep into the performance of a single and, frankly, it's a wrong assessment of the relationship between an album and a single; because, even if an album is successful, a single still has the potential to sell very well too. The Fame, 21, Teenage Dream are all testaments to that. The fact is Beyonce the album was a huge success because of its surprise iTunes exclusivity, which ignited a momentum of positive press regardless of whether or not the singles flop.

She's an "it-girl." This is why MTV's nominations are the way they are. It's an age-old tale of elevating the popular kids and shunning the not-so-popular kids. Even if DIL's video is basic as hell, they'll give her a VOTY nom, because she's selling the most. It's wrong.

The difference between those albums and BEYONCE is that, Beyonce was released before the first single.

Can you imagine how awful Applause would've sold if ARTPOP was released before the first single? It's fair that Bey doesn't have any hits.

But I agree, the VMAs are bull****. We have to boycott them!

With this albums track record?  :toofunny:

MTV is that kid at school who'll be the best friend of whoever is popular that week  :coffee:

For the next album Gaga will probably be their darling again, but for now it'll be Iggy and Ariana, because .

Who knows if the next album doesn't do good again... start praying now.

I never understand nominations... for example, as much as I love Charli and like Iggy and enjoy Fancy, some of these MVs deserved more, the same can be said about other nomitations

By the way was Pretty Hurts even a single?

All the Beyonce singles/videos weren't even popular and you guys tell me MTV values popularity in the nominations. In terms of popularity, Gaga wins Beyonce. In terms of quality videos, Gaga wins Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea.

And then Gaga got 0 nominations.

Wrecking Ball is far from Mileys most disliked video and far from the most disliked videos on youtube lol

Its the biggest video shes ever released and probably the most omnipresent song she'll ever release. It deserves its nomination completely, I don't understand how thats even arguable regardless of whether or not you think miley cyrus is a respectable pop artist or the video was personally respectable in your opinion.

the vmas are a popularity contest, its not about music videos

no Wrecking Ball is famous for its negative response, you are dead wrong.
