How was G.U.Y. not a hit?

A bad conduct and a lack of desire of Gaga to promote it properly and make it succeed.

The atmosphere around her at that time didn't help it either.

I guess it's not that commercial (in what concerns to what is heard now), radio didn't pick it up and there wasn't too much promo.

I have no idea. We had so many amazing performances for it

In my opinion it's just simply not a good song, but that's not the reason it wasn't successful. The main problem is that radio didnt want top play it and that generally people are tired of Gaga, I'm afraid :-/

It wasn't supposed to be a hit. The music video was for us.

Yep.

It sounds great, but not a relatable song for most radio listeners.

It was performed on T.V once and radio didn't pick it up

Doesn't matter, the song slays and the video slays.

Well first of she didn't promoted it anywhere live. She only promoted the music video. secondly the radio completly ignored it and it should have been released much closer to dwuw to have a fair chance to become a hit.

Didn't gave in to payloa :troll:

No but seriously, I just think peeps weren't here for it because of all the hating she endured, specially with the super radio friendly singles of Katy

who will love me when the night is over

People here knew of of it because our stations love Gaga and they played G.U.Y. few times.

Lack of promo + only one live performance to promo the song. Also I never thought the song would perform that well but I thought it would do better than it actually did

Stop blaming the promotion. From after 2 weeks after the video release on, it was obvious that it wouldn't become a Top 10 hit or even a Top 20 hit, perhaps only with the airplay Birthday got.

The actual problems:

- The chorus lacks 'it'. It's boring, and lacks a catchy hook.

- It's not relatable. The lyrics are something that most don't understand unless they listen really well.

- Radio gave it no chance, it didn't even cross 10M AI!

- The momentum for the era was lost somewhere in February in the US. In the rest of the world, this was lost in January already.

Mess at all you saying GUY 'wasn't supposed to be a hit. She shot a music video at Hearst Castle. Was on tv for it (today show interview, letterman performance, premiered it on television--though I'll admit it was before an obscure show at a weird time). Hell she even had the 'g.u.y. Hotel thing--who does that for a single that they don't want to be a hit?

The song just wasn't single friendly. Unrelatable lyrics + song that isn't great + try-hard video = flop.

G.U.Y. was promoted quite well actually. Interview and behind the scenes on The Today Show, an exclusive preview of the music video was aired on NBC Dateline's 20/20, performing the song on David Letterman, as well has having Andy Cohen and the Real Housewives apart of the video which would generate free promo for their fans.
